Job overview

Please note the school does not accept cvs and only consider completed application forms for shortlisting.

Portland Place School is a leading independent co-educational day school for children aged 9-18, located directly in the heart of the City of Westminster. It was founded with a particular purpose in mind: to be an alternative to the intense, large, examination focused independent day schools of which there are many in London.

The school ethos is to be small, nurturing and be relaxed, encouraging and enabling our pupils to achieve their very best academically, with space to develop and express their creativity and athleticism.

Staff and pupils at this leading school recently celebrated not only a high record of five plus A*-C grades at GCSE Level, with 85% of pupils achieving this, but also being placed in the top 10% of schools nationally for progress based on Value Added Scores for A Levels – the difference between what a pupil does achieves, in comparison to what they were expected to achieve.

The Good Schools Guide describes us as ‘small, nurturing and refreshingly relaxed. A haven of creativity in the pushy, academically competitive world of London day schools. A place for engaged, lively kids.’We believe that exceptional teaching, combined with a modern curriculum inside and outside the classroom, provides the best stimulus for children to become inquisitive, open-minded and creative learners and achieve beyond exams.

We cater for a wide range of abilities and learning styles, achieving strong results at GCSE and A Levels. More importantly, our students come to school with a smile and are proud to be part of the Portland Place School community.

The school is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Mathematics teacher with a passion for this subject, permanent, starting from September 2018.

The successful applicant will be able to deliver normal aspects of KS3-KS5 Mathematics and join a dedicated Mathematics department.  The post is suitable for an experienced teacher for whom the school provides the ISTIP route. The salary will be in line with mainstream sector but in the Alpha Plus Scale.
