Loretto School is one of Britain’s leading independent boarding and day schools located on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Teacher of Mathematics on a full-time basis with an anticipated start date of January 2025.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Teacher of Mathematics, committed to the quality of learning and teaching and to providing an engaging and inspiring experience for the pupils. The successful applicant will be a teacher who understands the importance of this role as well as the broader task of conveying interest and passion for the subject in the classroom.

We are looking for a candidate with high expectations of students, who will maintain the high grades achieved in recent years while also promoting a love of the subject inside and outside the classroom.

The successful candidate is expected to possess the following qualities:

·        a passion for Mathematics and an ability to share this with pupils

·        a high level of academic qualification in Mathematics

·        the ability to plan, prepare and deliver creative and challenging lessons to all age groups

·        the confidence to use innovative teaching methods that enhance learning and teaching

·        the creativity to produce resources which contribute to teaching and departmental development

·        good organisational skills and punctuality

·        willingness to work as part of a team and to share ideas with colleagues

 

You will be required to teach Mathematics to GCSE and A-level (both Edexcel exam board) You will also be expected to participate in the pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school.

The successful candidate will be expected to be fully registered (or have the opportunity to become fully registered) with the GTCS.

 

The Department

The Mathematics department consists of five Mathematics teachers each teaching all ages and abilities and a learning support teacher who supports in the classroom for half the timetable. Each teacher has their own carpeted room, furnished with Smartboard, PC and a pen tablet as well as a standard whiteboard.

All pupils come to lessons with an electronic device and textbooks are available to pupils online. We also have a range of online resources that we use to enhance the learning experience of our pupils such as Mathswatch[DP1] and Mangahigh.

Set in 85 acres of leafy campus just outside Edinburgh, Scotland,  Loretto school provides an all-round education for just over 500 boys and girls - boarders, flexi-boarders and day pupils - aged 3-18.
