An inspiring, enthusiastic Teacher of Mathematics is required to join our thriving department of 9. The successful applicant will be a qualified teacher or an ECT and should be able and willing, over time, to teach Mathematics from KS3 up to A Level standard. Experience of the International Baccalaureate is desirable though not essential. We will also consider applications from current and potential teacher trainees.

 The Mathematics department is well resourced and the subject is mostly taught in sets. Pupils work towards the Edexcel GCSE in Mathematics with virtually all sitting the Higher Tier paper. We have recently redesigned the KS3 curriculum to offer greater challenge and faster progress whilst building the strong foundations necessary to begin the GCSE in year 9. In the Sixth form we offer A-Level Maths and Further Maths as well as teaching the subject at Higher and Standard Level in the IB.

Many of our international students study Maths in dedicated classes as part of our offer of international courses. There are approximately 30 students following a one-year IGCSE course and some younger students in Years 7 to 10 occasionally have separate lessons due to their exceptional talent. 

Pupils are encouraged to participate in a number of mathematical competitions, the most common of which are those run by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT). These involve individual written papers and a Senior and Junior Team event. We have had great success in recent years and the feats of our successful pupils have been an inspiration to others. In recent years we have also been participating in the National Cipher Competition, which has proved popular with our older pupils.

The department is well resourced with SMART boards in all classrooms, as well as a large office for resources. The use of ICT in teaching is enabled and encouraged and all pupils have access to a learning device in the lesson (in Year 7 - 11 we have a 1:1 iPads scheme)

Pupils at Rossall enjoy Mathematics, and a significant proportion choose to continue to study it in the Sixth form, with healthy numbers opting each year for Further Maths. An encouraging number of students go on to study Mathematics and related subjects at universities across the UK and the rest of the World.
