Job overview

Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. Following Ofsted’s latest inspection in 2016, The National School and College Performance Tables not only identify Queen Mary’s College as one of the best in the region, but it also places it in the top 5% of all A- level providers across the country.

Based in its own purpose-built block situated at the front of the College, the Maths department has dedicated teaching rooms featuring interactive whiteboards and a maths workshop with access to a wide range of mathematical software. Our staff work closely together, offering a range of courses aimed at all ability levels, which regularly achieve A to E grades in all courses. Our ‘Double Maths’ students achieved outstanding grades in 2017, placing the College in the top 1% nationally.

Comprised of nine subject specialists, we have enthusiastically embraced the revised curricula for both A Level and GCSE students and are committed to developing the mathematical skills of students of all abilities.

You will be key in the maintenance and extension of our examination success, dedicated to improving the take-up of Mathematics courses, and in integrating the use of IT and other transferable skills into our teaching. In short, we aim to ensure that Maths continues to play a central role in the educational provision of the College, whilst enthusiastically promoting STEM study within the region.

Wherever possible, we can offer flexibility in the subjects to be taught, taking into account your personal experience, skills and preferences (e.g. if you are a GCSE specialist currently in a secondary school we would welcome your application). As a Personal Tutor, you will also motivate, monitor, support and guide students’ academic progress through regular one-to-one consultations.

Whether you’re experienced or newly qualified, you should be an inspiring teacher with a good working knowledge of recent post-16 curriculum developments. A willingness to contribute to the development of course materials for courses offered by the department is also essential.
