
Teacher of Mathematics (Maternity Cover) 1.0 FTE

The School is seeking to employ a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of Mathematics from August 2021 (or June 2021) to join our highly successful Mathematics Department.
The Mathematics Department consists of nine full-time Mathematics teachers and one part-time teacher. Applicants should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm for Mathematics, an effective and inspirational teaching style, high standards of professionalism with a commitment to professional development, and a good knowledge of the Scottish Mathematics curriculum and a deep understanding of the development of mathematical learning.
The department is at an exciting time in its development and you will be joining a vibrant team focused on continually improving the mathematical experience each pupil receives. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to teach pupils between the ages of 11 and 18. They should be willing to make a contribution to the rich extra-curricular life of the School.
The Mathematics Department has consistently achieved excellent results in national examinations. In 2020, the National 5 pass rate was 97%, with 80% at grade A; at Higher the pass rate was 92%, 73% at Grade A. At Advanced Higher, the pass rates in Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics were 93% (68% at A) and 89% (56% at A) and 92% (75% at A) respectively. Currently all pupils are presented for National 5 at the end of Fourth Year, with a large majority choosing to study Higher in Fifth Year. In Session 2020-21, uptake in Advanced Highers in Mathematics (37), Mechanics (7) and Statistics (12) were amongst the popular choices in Sixth Year. In addition to exam success, pupils in the Mathematics Department participate in SMC and UKMT competitions, achieving regular success.
