Job overview

Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School is seeking to appoint a full-time teacher of mathematics from September 2024 to cover maternity leave.

We welcome applications from talented individuals who will dedicate themselves to the implementation of the school and department’s vision and the continued development of the maths department.

The successful candidate must be confident in teaching up to A Level and possess a wider love of mathematics. An interest in, and experience of, the development of extra-curricular opportunities in maths would be highly desirable.

The maths department is comprised of eight teachers, located together in adjacent rooms in our new school building. Virtually all students undertake higher level GCSE, with nearly 100 students studying maths at A Level, alongside smaller numbers in further maths and AS Level core maths.

Many students leave us to undertake maths related courses at university, with a consistently high number progressing to Oxbridge, Russell Group and other top-20 universities.

Our school places the same importance on academic excellence as it does on mental wellbeing and the development of non-examined skills. Teachers are given the opportunity to develop and lead research opportunities; previous and current projects have been/are supported by the likes of the Royal Society, major pharmaceutical companies and universities. These projects feed into the rich and varied offer delivered through the Langton Extended Curriculum, working to ensure that we help shape ambitious, confident, independent and creative students, ready to take their place in society.

If you have a passion for mathematics that you want to share with motivated and committed students, we welcome your application.

Ofsted report

“Students feel safe and happy at school. The school’s care and support for their personal development are outstanding. New students in Years 7 and 12 settle in very quickly. Teachers have superb subject knowledge and often use this to make lessons intellectually challenging and stimulating. Students work hard and conscientiously. They are attentive, interested and learn well. The sixth form is good. The number of students moving on to prestigious universities has increased in the last few years.”
