Teacher of Mathematics

Salary: Main scale

Contract: Permanent, full time

Start date: 1st January 2020

Closing date: 12 noon, Monday 21st October 2019

We are seeking to employ, from January 2020, an enthusiastic teacher of Maths to join our team of dedicated Maths teachers.  The successful applicant will be able to teach Maths up to GCSE, and there may be an opportunity to teach A level if desired.

Prince William School is located in Oundle, within easy commuting distance of Peterborough, Stamford, Kettering, Huntingdon, Wellingborough, and Corby.  It is a vibrant and friendly school which strives to deliver the challenging and inspirational curriculum our students need to prepare them for the ever-changing world of work. We have high expectations for all, and our aim is simple: to be the best school in Northamptonshire and beyond for every student, no matter what their ability or aspirations.

The Maths department is staffed by a team of energetic, dedicated and resourceful professionals who are very supportive of each other.  Our students are well-behaved, happy, engaging, and inquisitive individuals, who are proud to be Prince William students.  We are passionate about providing them with the best possible education and they have high aspirations for themselves and look to us to guide them on their journey to adult life.

The school is keen to support staff to develop both personally and professionally, and the successful candidate will be given training opportunities to suit their needs and career aspirations.  If an NQT is appointed, they will benefit from the support of a mentor who is a Maths teacher, as well as the supervision of a member of the Senior Leadership team with responsibility for Teaching and Learning.

This is an exciting time for the school as examination results have seen rapid improvement and the school is expanding.  In 2019, 72% of our KS4 cohort achieved grade 4+ in both English and Maths, and 52% achieved grade 5+ in both English and Maths.  According to the early data from FFT Aspire, our Progress 8 score was +0.21,  and the gap between disadvantaged and other students closed significantly for the second successive year, with the Progress 8 score for Free School Meals Ever 6 students being +0.04.  In KS5, we achieved 56% A* - B and 79% A* - C, an average grade of B- and a positive progress measure.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who is committed to delivering high-quality lessons for students of all abilities. In return, the school offers a supportive Senior Leadership Team; a committed and caring department; good CPD and career development opportunities; and students with good attitudes to learning.  There is also an onsite nursery run by a private company.

Thank you for visiting our profile and I’m delighted to welcome you to Prince William School, part of the East Midlands Academy Trust community of schools.

The EMAT vision is “every child deserves to be the best they can be” and we wholeheartedly believe in this vision of providing the best education for each and every one of our young people.

Our curriculum is well-sequenced, aspirational for all and has excellent teaching and behaviour at its foundation. We ensure that we develop the character in our young people to make the right decisions, at the right time, for the right reason, even when no one is watching.

At both GCSE and A level, our outcomes are very strong, and Ofsted recognise that our school is a “calm and friendly place” where our students “enjoy school, feel safe and are happy” and “respect staff”.

Our commitment to a wider curriculum goes beyond the classroom and we have an excellent range of leadership and enrichment opportunities for all students at all ages that stretch their social and emotional skills.  The careers provision at Prince Williams School is exceptional; it is tailored to each individual student with a one-to-one meeting with our dedicated career adviser in Key Stage 3 and in Key Stage 4. The RSE curriculum allows our students to express their thoughts on a range of challenging topics and encourages them to develop their oracy and articulation skills to become confident in expressing themselves verbally.

We are fully committed to safeguarding our young people and all decisions are made with a lens of safeguarding their wellbeing. We are an inclusive school and our behaviour system is simple and straightforward for all to understand, allowing teachers to focus on the quality of teaching and deliver excellent learning opportunities.

I am incredibly proud to be the headteacher of PWS and, with an open-door culture, welcome any questions or queries. As a community, we will work collaboratively to find solutions and overcome any barriers that any of our young people have to fulfilling their incredible potential.
