Job overview

Prestwich Arts College is a mainstream, co-educational, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school, for children aged 11-16.  We are situated in Prestwich, Manchester, near to the Metrolink and the M60 motorway system and we have 860 pupils on our roll.  We are a school which is determined to move forward, we have a clear direction, with strong leadership and we are 100% committed to making us the best school for pupils, parents and staff.  Our vision is ‘realising greatness’; as we want every individual in our care to have the opportunity to realise their own greatness.  We promote a culture of high expectations, within a supportive environment, based upon our core values of pride, respect, equality, success, team work, work ethic, initiative, community and harmony (PRESTWICH).  These core values are central to the school; they form the basis of how we work together as a family and how pupils are rewarded for the fantastic things they do.

Prestwich Arts College wishes to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and inspirational Teacher of Mathematics.  The Mathematics faculty at Prestwich is a committed and enthusiastic team.  Staff have a diverse range of skills and experience, they all contribute to the goal of getting the best outcomes for pupils.  We believe in doing what is right for us and our pupils and not just following what is considered to be the accepted way.

We have recently rewritten our marking and feedback policy, to include no book marking, as we see far more effective ways of giving feedback to our pupils.  We are also part way through a complete rewrite of our schemes of work, working together to create resources to go with each topic, for every year.  This should then free up teachers to spend time thinking about how they are going to deliver the lessons, the questions they want to ask and misconceptions they want to address.

Department meetings are a time for us to reflect on our teaching, discussing any possible alternative methods or parts of lessons we want to share with others in the team.  We truly believe that the best teachers are those that have a good work / life balance and encourage all our staff to enjoy their evenings, weekends and holidays.  A well-rested teacher is much better equipped to handle the full-on nature of a day in school.

We believe this is an exciting time to be joining the Mathematics department and indeed the school, as we are looking for a competent practitioner, who wants to be a part of our improvement journey.  The salary is negotiable, based on experience, as we do have a number of initiatives available in school, which could attract an additional TLR payment e.g. to lead on high attainers.

If you want more information prior to application or interview, please contact the school to arrange an informal chat or visit.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and staff must share this commitment.  Appointment to the post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Please complete the application form, paying particular attention to the job description and person specification. The short listing will take into account how you have demonstrated that your abilities match the skills and experience detailed in those documents.

The closing date is noon on Monday, 20th May 2019 and interviews are expected to be held on Wednesday, 22nd May 2019.
