The Post

The British School of Ulaanbaatar seeks an experienced and fully qualified Teacher of Mathematics for the 2020-2021 Academic year and beyond.  Prior experience of teaching the National Curriculum of England and Wales is an essential requirement.  Previous employment in the UK or International Schools following a British curriculum is highly desirable, although NQTs will be considered. We are looking for professional, flexible, independent teachers possessing cultural dexterity and a sense of adventure.

The School

The British School of Ulaanbaatar is ambitious and aspirational school, with a shared vision of academic excellence, personal development and challenge for all our pupils, from the ages of three to eighteen.  We have a strong extra-curricular enrichment programme in which all teachers play a crucial role.  The School has now entered a phase of considerable development in terms of both facilities and the numbers of staff and students, and thus new colleagues are required to be part of this journey.

The School welcomes expatriate and Mongolian families alike, with students from a wide range of nationalities whilst retaining a family and community atmosphere.  Children in the Primary School follow a modified version of the EYFS and National Curriculum of England and Wales, whilst the Secondary School prepares students for CAIE IGCSEs and ‘A’ Levels, after which the vast majority of our graduates matriculate to international universities of high-standing across the globe.

BSU is a fully accredited member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), having been awarded ‘Patron’s Accreditation’ in 2018, one of the first ten schools worldwide to achieve this.

The Location

Mongolia’s cosmopolitan and diverse capital city, Ulaanbaatar is where an ultra-modern cityscape lies adjacent to ancient lamaseries.  The city offers many opportunities for fine dining and supports a diverse social life ranging from events based on compounds, diplomatic missions or hosted by local people.  Ulaanbaatar is surrounded by striking landscapes which offer considerable opportunities for outdoor pursuits and unique cultural experiences.  The surrounding countryside provides excellent opportunities for trekking, riding, skiing and cycling, enabling the adventurous to explore the lakes, forests, steppe and deserts.

The climate in Ulaanbaatar is one of extremes, but the low relative humidity makes both summer and winter far more bearable than the numbers would otherwise suggest!  Frequent periods of high pressure give rise to clear, blue skies which allow you to enjoy the dramatic scenery.

The airport in Ulaanbaatar is well served by a variety of international carriers with direct flights to many global hubs (Seoul, Tokyo, Istanbul, Moscow, Beijing, etc.) with new destinations being added on a regular basis.

Terms and Conditions

BSU offers colleagues an internationally competitive salary and relocation assistance on arrival.  We also offer furnished accommodation on the School campus, full remission of tuition fees at the School for dependent children, medical insurance and flight allowances at the start and end of the contract period.  A two-year contract will be offered at the onset of employment, with options to renew in the future.

Induction and onboarding will begin on 10 August for new colleagues to prepare for the start of term on 17 August 2020.

The ideal candidate will have:
