Job overview

Outwood Grange Academy seeks applications from outstanding applicants with integrity, imagination and energy for this rewarding role.

Are you a specialist teacher of Maths at KS5 or aspiring to be so? This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic secondary Maths teacher with a desire to specialise in KS5 teaching and supporting students at KS4 with the transition to A-Level and Core Maths. An excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject is essential and some experience of teaching at KS5 is desirable. We are looking for someone who is passionate about encouraging students to take their study of Maths into KS5 and beyond, someone with the creativity and enthusiasm to inspire our students. Our KS5 curriculum is developing to have a greater focus on Teaching for Understanding and ensures we focus on depth of understanding, meaning that our students get a true understanding of Maths at their level. There will be many opportunities for the successful candidate to work in a team of experienced teachers to develop this further.

At Outwood Grange Academy we expect our staff to be the best they can be and in turn encourage and bring out the best in our wonderful students. Our diverse curriculum has something for everyone, with extra guidance for those requiring additional support, and we do whatever it takes to help young people develop a sense of responsibility – towards themselves, each other, their community and the wider world. This is an opportunity to join our Maths Department who are committed to driving progress and attainment to improve the life chances of every student.

Our Executive Director, Kathryn Greenhalgh leads the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub and is keen to appoint someone who is ambitious for professional development either in the classroom or across our Family of Schools. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’. Applications are invited from both newly qualified and experienced professionals.

The Outwood Grange Academies Trust offers:

  • The opportunity to work and progress across the Family of Schools.
  • The chance to apply for leadership roles in the Deeps working across the whole Academy.
  • The support and expertise of our Directors of Maths working across the Family of Schools.
  • External outreach through the work of the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub.
  • A full and detailed programme of support and development for ECTs.
  • A further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through the Outwood Institute of Education (formerly the teaching school).

We welcome applications for our Central region of the Trust from teachers who love maths and have a passion to develop this in others. You could progress quickly across our Family of Schools if that was what you are looking for, through maths leadership or through our Deeps structure; but, if you just want to be the best maths teacher you can be, then we are also the Trust for you!

We are an Outstanding rated, 11-18 academy based in the cathedral city of Wakefield, near Leeds.

The Outwood Family was born out of our academy’s success and we are proud that after our last inspection, Ofsted paid tribute to the ‘academy staff and leaders for the way they ensure you get the best education possible.’

We have nurtured a school community that is welcoming and friendly, where students and staff can make excellent progress together, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
