Student achievement and well-being is at the heart of everything we do at Whickham School. We combine outstanding teaching with a rewarding and an enriching curriculum which broadens students’ horizons and encourages them to be the best that they can be.
We are seeking to appoint a Maths teacher or NQT, who is passionate about the teaching and learning of mathematics and is committed to self improvement. This is an excellent opportunity to join our oversubscribed 11 – 18 school with a vibrant, forward thinking philosophy and a positive, friendly atmosphere.
We can offer an exciting opportunity to make a real impact. Our maths faculty is undergoing rapid change, with significant improvements in teaching and learning being made in recent years. Our recent visit from Ofsted validated this as they were impressed with our mastery curriculum, use of co-operative learning structures in lessons as well as the progress and engagement of our students. We are a faculty that believes all students can be successful in mathematics and you will contribute to the continuation of raising standards across all levels and abilities. The maths team is large, with staff having expertise and experience in many settings. We work collaboratively to share planning, develop pedagogy and raise the standards of student experience. You can be assured that you will be joining a team that will support you to be the best you can be.
We are delighted that the maths faculty will be housed in our new purpose built STEAM (science, technology, engineering, maths and arts) building due for completion in Jan 2020. The rehousing of maths into our new school build provides us with many exciting opportunities to collaborate with our STEAM colleagues.
Whickham school is an exciting place to work, we can offer:
● A school that will allow you to be inspirational, creative and play an active role in our journey to become outstanding.
● Professional development programmes, with a commitment to support your career ambitions.
● An academy which welcomes new ideas with energy and enthusiasm.
● Students that are well behaved and want to learn.
● A wide range of extracurricular activities.
● Opportunities to teach mathematics to further maths A level.
If you think you have the passion, energy and drive to help us on our journey of improvement, we would like to hear from you. Informal visits are welcome and encouraged. Please contact Nicola Graham, HR & Administration Manager on (0191 4960026 ext 205) to arrange this.
