Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly successful Maths department, part of one of the leading schools in the UK, where interest in Maths amongst students is high and career development opportunities are excellent.

As Teacher of Maths, you will be joining a department that has a commitment to innovation and is currently a partner school to the Cambridge Mathematics Education Project working on new A Level resources. You will be confident in teaching Maths and Further Maths to A Level and beyond and have the insight and enthusiasm to convey the intricacies of this subject in an engaging and adventurous way that challenges students to enjoy Maths.

With an excellent honours degree in Mathematics or a Maths-related subject, you should be accustomed to, or capable of guiding students of the highest ability. You should be familiar with IT and its use as a tool for learning, teaching and administration and be prepared to develop your skills further. Full training and support will be given to candidates who are not qualified teachers – we have a long-term, successful record of developing excellent teachers. Applications are welcomed from Mathematics graduates; DfE approved arrangements are in place for NQTs with the HMC Teacher Training programme, leading to a PGCE and QTS.

In return we can offer excellent facilities, a welcoming, comfortable and well-resourced environment and unrivalled career development opportunities.

About Ashford Senior School

Ashford School is one of the UK's leading coeducational independent day and boarding school, founded in 1898, and voted Independent School of the Year 2010/2011.  The school was endorsed as outstandingly successful in every category during the most recent inspection in 2014.  In September 2014, Ashford School became a Teaching School; only one of four Independent Schools in the UK to do so.  There are 850 pupils, comprising Bridge Nursery in Ashford, looking after children of 3 months to three years old; Ashford Prep School in the rural village of Great Chart, a preparatory school for children between 3 and 11, and Ashford School, a senior school for girls and boys aged 11 to 18, occupying a prominent 25+ acre site close to the centre of Ashford and within a short walk of the International Station. There are good rail, road and bus links to Ashford and London (37 minutes) and the school operates its own bus services to outlying villages.

Teachers at Ashford enjoy a welcoming, comfortable and well-resourced environment and are provided with assistance from a range of support staff.  All teachers act as tutors and are expected to contribute to the co-curricular life of the school. Responding to the needs of the individual student - be it preparing for examinations in after-school classes or guiding the most able through Olympiad problems - is at the heart of the department and School ethos.
