Job overview

We are looking for a teacher with ability and imagination; someone who will be able to motivate and inspire a love of maths, problem solving and logic, developing a mastery of the subject; a teacher who can communicate clearly and be determined for their students to succeed. Primarily we are looking for a teacher of A Level Maths, however all experience will be considered, and the successful candidates' timetable can be created to reflect their skills and interests

The college offers A levels in Maths and Further Maths alongside level 3 Core Maths. GCSE Maths is also offered for those who have not previously achieved grade 4.

The successful applicant will be joining an experienced, dynamic, and welcoming team of teachers led by Assistant Principal and the Head of Department, Dave Robinson. Maths is part of the Mathematical Sciences Department which includes Mathematics, Physics and Engineering. This is a friendly team of highly capable teachers who share a strong commitment to supporting students. Within the team there is an emphasis on developing and sharing pedagogic methods to best deal with the diverse range of aptitudes and needs of our students.

This contract will be on a temporary basis, covering maternity leave and commencing 1st September 2023.

You are required, as part of the terms of your appointment, to be appropriately qualified.

College Overview

Scarborough Sixth Form College is an open-access College, which provides general education primarily for 16-19 year olds in the area. The majority of our 1000+ students are full-time, and follow Advanced (level 3) courses from which most progress onto Higher Education.  The College has developed a very successful vocationally-related provision in a range of BTEC Nationals and we also offer a one-year Level 2 programme (our “Progression Year”) consisting of GCSEs in Maths, English and Science plus a range of BTEC Firsts.  Achievement at the College is high, and above national benchmarks, with outstanding positive value-added overall.  The College had an Inspection in December 2019 and was confirmed as a Good provider. 

The College provides a pleasant environment in which to work, being set in attractive grounds on the edge of town. College campus facilities have been enhanced by almost £5 million investment. Scarborough itself offers an attractive coastline and beaches and is situated on the edge of the North York Moors, within easy reach of the City of York.
