Job overview

At Airedale Academies Trust, we want the best for our pupils.

We are now seeking to appoint a motivated and committed Maths teacher to join our vibrant Maths department at Airedale Academy and become part of the school’s continuing journey towards ‘Outstanding’.

If you have a passion for excellence, drive and enthusiasm for success, and a vision for how to get students excited by Maths, you are the kind of person we’re looking for. You will be joining an Academy with a desire to build on our successes, where hard work and excellence are rewarded. As part of the Airedale Academies Trust, we can also offer opportunities for cross-phase work with our primary schools – an ideal springboard for an ambitious Maths teacher considering a future leadership role. There is the possibility of a TLR opportunity for the right candidate.

You will be an outstanding teacher with a track record of success, who has the ambition, vision and determination to engage with and motivate students across the age and ability range. You will also need to be prepared to contribute to the development of outstanding teaching and learning practice across the department.

Airedale Academy is an 11-18 school located in the former industrial heartland of Yorkshire, at the junction of the M62 and A1. We have been a standalone academy since April 2011 – one of the first of the new wave of good and outstanding schools who chose to convert to academy status. Our school is at the heart of the local community and we have strong links with our partner primary schools – a relationship which, in August 2014, led to the development of our single academy trust into a multi-academy Trust with three of our feeder primary schools. Together we believe in encouraging children from some of the most disadvantaged communities in the country to dream big, and then give them the tools to achieve those dreams.

We believe in trying our best to ensure that staff are happy and fulfilled in their work and receive the training and support they need to perform their role. We run a weekly training programme – ‘Excel’ – which any member of staff can attend if that week’s subject is of interest to them. We are also a strategic partner in the Outwood Teaching School Alliance, which gives us access to a range of development programmes for staff at all levels. We believe in supporting staff to achieve a good work-life balance and our wellbeing programme includes a range of benefits including break-time refreshments, access to fitness facilities and visits by a car valet company, as well as regular staff social events.

There’s no denying that the catchment we serve is an area of high socio-economic deprivation, and some of the children who join our school have a difficult home-life, but irrespective of their background the vast majority of our students are polite, well-behaved and willing to learn – and the handful that aren’t are dealt with swiftly through our robust behaviour management systems. For us, though, a student’s background is no reason for them not to aspire to be the best they can be, and we can count Oxbridge graduates, participants in prestigious business intern programmes and actors on blockbuster movies amongst our former students.

This is a permanent post, subject to successful completion of a one-year probationary period.

For an informal discussion regarding the post, please contact Marc Loftus, Head of Maths, on 01977 664555. Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the Academy before applying. Please call to make an appointment.

Further details and an application form are available on our website www.airedaleacademy.com/vacancies.html  or by emailing HRAAT@airedaleacadey.com

Airedale Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check.
