The Bulmershe School are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated candidate to join our friendly, supportive and rapidly expanding Media Studies department. Candidates should have a genuine passion for the subject area, strong subject knowledge and the desire to deliver engaging, thought provoking and challenging lessons to our students. Candidates should also be comfortable creating resources and adapting their teaching to correspond with the ever-changing contemporary media landscape, as well as creating a classroom environment that is built upon foundations of respect and tolerance.

As part of the Performing and Community Arts Faculty, The Bulmershe School Media department is equipped with multiple IT suites and a Media Resource Centre and shares close faculty links to the Drama, Music and Photography departments. An incredibly popular subject at the school, this post offers candidates the opportunity to be part of an exciting and dynamic department. The post may also require you to teach the occasional English lesson. This post is suitable for experienced teachers, however, due to the supportive culture at The Bulmershe School, this post is also suitable for an ECT.

 

Specific duties and responsibilities

  • Teach Eduqas GCSE Media Studies
  • Teach Eduqas A Level Media Studies
  • Teach KS3 English
  • Pro-active lesson planning and marking
  • Responsible for the learning and achievement of all students in your classes, ensuring equality of opportunity for all
  • Responsible and accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct
  • Treat students with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position
  • Work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with learners, parents/carers, governors, other staff and external agencies in the best interests of students
  • Act within the statutory frameworks, which set out professional duties and responsibilities and in line with the duties outlined in the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and Teacher Standards
  • Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school


The Ideal Candidate should

  • have experience of teaching Media Studies and English
  • have a genuine passion for the subject area, and an appreciation of its importance within a school curriculum
  • have excellent verbal and written skills
  • have knowledge/experience with some forms of practical Media production (Photoshop/video editing/web design etc)
  • be an inspirational and student-centred teacher who has high expectations of all learners
  • be able to motivate students of all levels and abilities to achieve their aspirations
  • be able to foster a classroom environment that encourages respectful and open discussion regarding significant Media issues and debates.
  • be a team player
  • be energetic with a self-assured attitude
  • be committed to the happiness and wellbeing of everyone at the school

The Bulmershe School is a heavily oversubscribed school which sits at the heart of the Woodley community. We are a mixed, Corvus Learning Trust Academy school of 1,500 students aged between 11 and 18, who come from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

We take enormous pride in our caring reputation and anyone who joins our team should be committed to achieving high levels of responsibility, mutual respect and resilience within the safe and nurturing environment of our school community. 

The community school was established in 1964 and at present, has around 1,500 students on the roll with 250 pupils enrolled in our growing sixth form.

Teaching is good and sometimes outstanding. Lessons are well planned and paced so that students are engaged in their learning. Students’ behaviour, both in lessons and around the school, is very good. Students’ very positive attitudes to learning contribute to their good progress in lessons. The school is a harmonious community with good relationships between students and staff. Students feel very safe and the school promotes their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well.”
