Job overview

The modern languages department at Archbishop Temple School are looking for a colleague to join us to teach Spanish at KS3 and KS4. The post is full time, and the contract is temporary to cover a maternity leave for one year.

Archbishop Temple School is one of the highest achieving schools in the region. Our greatest asset is our positive and motivated young people. Working with us means that you will be able to teach the sort of young people who probably inspired you to become a teacher in the first place. We are a national teaching school, and we work collaboratively with schools across the region. This enables us to provide excellent professional development for all our colleagues, both teachers and support staff. Working within our MFL department will enable you to work within a department where excellence comes as standard and where you are surrounded by positive, supportive colleagues who are wonderful teachers. We are a school where there is a rich extra curricular offer, and we would hope a new colleague will enjoy widening the offer we can make to our young people. As a Church of England school we put the wellbeing of our staff at a high premium. We believe that our Ofsted Outstanding status comes from simply getting things right for everybody, not overburdening staff with unnecessary tasks.

We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher who has a deep love of their subject and the ability to communicate this passion to our young people. We would expect our new Spanish teacher to have excellent academic and professional qualifications and be able to maintain high standards of teaching and learning. We would hope this person is a creative and innovative teacher who enjoys trying new ideas in their classroom.

About Archbishop Temple Church of England High School

Archbishop Temple Church of England High School is a high achieving, non-selective school. We are located in Preston, Lancashire, and have around 780 pupils aged 11-16 on roll. Our curriculum centres on traditional academic subjects including PE, technology subjects and creative arts subjects which we value.  We expect good behaviour and hard work from our pupils, and although we are unashamedly academic, we are here for all our pupils - we are an inclusive and welcoming school.  Children with special needs do conspicuously well with us, and are our greatest success stories.

We are very proud of the many opportunities we offer to our young people.  Our sports offer is superb and our music provision is amazing.

We are a Church of England school.  We acknowledge God through regular acts of worship, we employ a full time Chaplain who is part of the pastoral support we offer our children and staff.  Our faith is worked out in the way we treat people.  We deliberately invest very heavily in having a large and very experienced pastoral team.  Our motto of “faith, nurture, service” has nurturing young people at its heart.  Making sure children are cared for, safe and happy is critically important to us.  We have very few exclusions from school, and give our children as many chances as they need, because we are a place of faith!  One of the things we like about ourselves is that we are a relatively small secondary school.  That means that every child will be taught by every teacher during their time with us – no-one is anonymous, everyone knows everyone’s name.

All of this combines to make us a place of achievement.  Every year around 85% of our children leave us with five or more good GCSEs, including English and Maths.  We are a national teaching school.
