Teacher of MFL (Spanish initially): An excellent opportunity for an excellent candidate to join a ‘Good’ school
Required: January 2018
Whitworth Community High School is looking for an outstanding Teacher of MFL (Spanish initially), to join us in our next phase of development in learning and teaching; building on our current strengths; working with colleagues to improve classroom practice and raise aspirations and thus improve student progress and attainment, enjoyment and engagement within the Creativity Faculty.
The successful applicant for this role will be a Spanish specialist, although there may be opportunities to introduce another MFL in the future; a passionate advocate for high quality teaching and learning; imaginative, dynamic and energetic; and an excellent communicator committed to enhancing the life chances of our young people. Spanish is a popular and successful option choice, with 80% of students achieving grade C or above in 2017. There is the possibility of a TLR as subject leader for a suitably experienced candidate and we offer excellent opportunities for professional development.
This is an exciting time to join our school. In December 2014 we were delighted to be judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Headline comments include: ‘Students achieve well across the school.’ ‘Progress is good.’ ‘Students demonstrate good attitudes to learning….. they are immensely proud of their school.’ ‘Students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is very strong …. behaviour is good. ‘The headteacher has a clear and steadfast vision for improving the school further.’ We are firmly focused on consolidating our ‘Climbing Higher’ agenda. In December 2015 Ofsted deemed all aspects of Safeguarding to be ‘exemplary’. Our 2016 Progress 8 Score was +0.16, placing us in the top third of Lancashire schools and in 2017 we are the most improved school in Lancashire in terms of the % of students achieving grades 4+ in both English and Maths (compared with 2016 A* - C).
We are looking for a colleague who can demonstrate:
- excellent teaching skills;
- the ability to inspire and enthuse students;
- practical strategies and sound pedagogy;
- the ambition and drive to ensure all students achieve their potential.
We would love you to see our school in action – to be part of the teaching and learning experience; to observe the excellent relationships between staff and students which characterise the atmosphere in school; to see the impact of our respect agenda. Everyone who visits Whitworth Community High School is impressed by the warmth of welcome, the behaviour of students and the clarity of our aspiration for the future. If possible, visit our school in advance of the closing date by contacting Mrs Y Ellis on 01706 343218 or via email recruitment@whitworth.lancs.sch.uk
