Job overview

In line with our TORCH values, we are ambitious for all our students and passionate about removing barriers to ensure all students can access a highly academic curriculum. MFL is a key part of our strategy of ensuring students have the opportunity to study eBacc.

Alongside the responsibilities as a Teacher of MFL, there is the opportunity for the right candidate to be a direct replacement for a retiring Head of Year/MFL Teacher.

Head of Year is an excellent opportunity for experienced teachers to take the next step in their career progression and to take a lead on the daily management of a specific year group.

The Role

You will have the opportunity to teach French to KS5 with the possibility of developing a second language in the future. Students moving into KS4 are placed on a pathways programme which has delivered a significant uplift in the number of students studying languages to GCSE. We are now looking to grow this further and have ambitions for KS5 to be delivered in the near future.

Heads of Year at Bridlington School are an integral part of the Pastoral system, they are supported upwards by Directors of Key Stage and the Safeguarding Teams as well as having a dedicated Pastoral Manager for each year group. You will be well supported in this role and well placed for making a difference to the lives of young people in Bridlington.

Heads of Year have a reduced timetable of 17 hours.

The Team

·          You will work alongside energetic middle leaders who are committed to removing barriers for young people to allow them to achieve their best.

·          You will join a strong team of collaborators who drive whole school teaching and learning.

·          The MFL team has highly committed and experienced linguists who are keen to grow access, opportunities and success both within the taught MFL curriculum and the enriched curriculum.

·          The team are actively looking to improve the wider opportunities for MFL students and have reintroduced overseas visits.

What we can offer You

It is an exciting time to join Bridlington School as we continue to strengthen relationships with other local Education providers including nearby Secondary Schools and Primary Feeders. This provides opportunity to be involved in transition and outreach work, but also connections with peers across the local area.

The school has a genuine and sustained focus on reducing workload, particularly in relation to marking and feedback.

You will join a dynamic and experienced leadership team who can assist your own career aims including progression. Many of our senior staff joined Bridlington School as NQTs/ECTs.

About You

We seek an individual who is passionate about Modern Foreign Languages, who will stretch and challenge pupils of all abilities whilst ensuring the importance of inclusive education for all learners.  You will have an innovative outlook and a commitment to the role together with a clear ambition and enthusiasm for Modern Foreign Languages and be fully involved in the life of the school.
