Job overview

Teacher of MFL

We seek to appoint a well-qualified, professional and versatile Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages from September 2018.  The successful applicant will teach French and a small amount of Spanish, both languages to at least KS4, preferably to KS5 in French.

Modern Foreign Languages MFL is taught throughout the 11 - 18 age range at all levels of ability and enjoys results significantly above the national average.  On entry in Year 7 students are allocated to French or Spanish taught initially in tutor groups which are set by ability at the end of the first year. All students will continue with their first language until Year 9.In Year 9 there is an opportunity for students to broaden their curriculum through a system of preference choices and they can take on a second language from French or Spanish which a gives them the opportunity of opting to study two languages at KS4. Languages are a popular choice for GCSE. In the Sixth Form there are A Level groups in all three languages. The Department is housed in a suite of rooms in the Lower School building and is well-resourced. There is a large team of specialist teachers who work collaboratively. The focus within the Department is on using the target language extensively and a rigorous approach is linked to creative and innovative teaching. We have good links with local feeder Primary schools and a great deal of work has been done already on smoothing the transition from KS2 to KS3, with regard to MFL learning.Hinchingbrooke School is academically focused offering a very pleasant working environment, once described by the Daily Telegraph as ‘the most beautiful state Secondary School in the country’. Being close to the railway station and with ample parking, it is a larger than average comprehensive (11-18) school with academy status and a number of unique features, including a full scale theatre and a new £2.5m Sports hall incorporating a full gym.The school has a well established reputation for being aspirational and high achieving, with a progress 8 score in the top 25% last year. The science department is large and successful with a full complement of technicians and well equipped labs. Our students are proud of their school, exercise their leadership through a number of student councils and leadership schemes and the school campus and historic house offer an exceptionally pleasant working environment which helps to ‘inspire excellence, and fulfil potential’. The school offers a bespoke CPD programme, has strong links with other networks, including membership of the Discovery Teaching School Alliance, a plethora of extra-curricular and cross-curricular working opportunities and is in a partnership with another local secondary school.
