Defence Children Services (DCS) are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages at King Richard School, Dhekelia, Cyprus. Job description

King Richard School is looking to appoint an outstanding, flexible, and reflective teacher of modern foreign language who has recent UK experience of teaching in their subject specialist area from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing excellent relationships with staff and students and of planning and delivering an engaging curriculum to ensure that students make outstanding progress.

King Richard School is located in Dhekelia, in the Eastern Sovereign Base Area of Cyprus. Located overlooking the Mediterranean, the school serves predominantly children of MOD personnel and members of the local community. The school has around 150 pupils on roll and consistently achieves results at Key Stage 4 that put King Richard School in the top 3% of schools nationally. That is only part of the reason why the school has achieved an Outstanding grading at our last two OFSTED inspections. Community is a major part of our school vision and this offers a depth to our context that is extremely rewarding.

Responsibilities

As the Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) you will be responsible to the Head of MFL. Your key duty will be to ensure outstanding learning and outcomes for students in our School.

General Responsibilities:

  1. To endeavour to ensure continuously outstanding student progress through effective teaching and learning.
  2. To contribute to the teaching of a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum across the full range of ability and help them to develop independent learning.
  3. To make a full contribution to the wider life of the School and Community.
  4. To set high expectations for all students, to deepen their knowledge and understanding to maximise their achievement.
  5. To model positive behaviour management strategies in an environment of mutual respect which allows students to feel safe and secure and promotes self-esteem.
  6. To contribute to the routine administrative work of the school and department and support and enable others to provide an engaging curriculum.
  7. To assess and record student progress giving positive and effective feedback that improves the learning of students in line with school policies and to take part fully in the School’s reporting framework.
  8. To engage fully with whole school improvement cycles including individual performance reviews.
  9. To carry out any reasonable requests made by the Headteacher to align with the Teacher’s Pay and Conditions of service.
  10. To work effectively with the Assistant Headteacher (Pupil Support) as a form tutor or mentor.

Qualifications/Experience:

  1. UK QTS and successful completion of Induction programme at the time of application.
  2. Experience of class teaching in KS3-5.
  3. Degree in French.

Desirable qualifications:

  1. Ability to teach another modern foreign language such as Spanish.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Experience and Technical skills.

At application you will be sifted against the following:

The interview will be evidence based on the essential knowledge, skills and experience outlined in the job advert and the Technical Skills. You will be expected to show evidence outstanding teaching and complete a subject/classroom-based task

About King Richard School

King Richard School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form in Dhekelia, Cyprus, serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school predominantly serves the military community in British Forces Cyprus. As a Ministry of Defence School, it is part of the Department for Children and Young People. 

King Richard School opened in 1958. It became federated with St John’s School, Episkopi, in 2009. The school follows the British Curriculum, with students having the option to study BTEC courses along with GCSEs and A levels. The school overlooks the Mediterranean sea, with facilities including iPads, use of a swimming pool and gym, sports courts, running tracks and modern design, technology, music and art blocks, complete with 3D printers and iMac computers.
