About Fairlands Middle School
Fairlands Middle School is a mainstream, state, community secondary middle school for girls and boys aged 9-13. It is located in Cheddar, Somerset.
Fairlands Middle School is part of the Cheddar Valley family of schools, comprising nine first schools, two middle schools and The Kings of Wessex Academy, to which the majority of Fairlands pupils transfer for Year 9. In 2014, Fairlands joined forces with three first schools to form the Mendip Edge Federation, with a single governing body working across all four schools.
Fairlands Middle School’s aim is for its pupils to learn to their full potential, growing as young people as they prepare for the next stages in their education. The school provides a secure environment to encourage this and help develop strong self-esteem.

Fairlands Middle School strives to develop pupils as independent learners with lively and enquiring minds, and to establish a safe and supportive learning environment. Ofsted report
“The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. The headteacher, alongside other leaders and governors, are highly ambitious and communicate a ‘can do’ attitude to both staff and pupils. Staff and pupils understand what is expected of them and work tirelessly to be successful. The school is a calm and purposeful place. Pupils are overwhelmingly positive about their school and wear the uniform with pride; pupils look smart and arrive at school well prepared to learn. Classrooms are stimulating learning environments where pupils benefit from strong working relationships with staff and each other.”
