The Governors are looking to appoint a hard-working, inspiring and talented Modern Foreign Languages teacher to join our existing team and help take St Oscar Romero Catholic School into the next chapter of its exciting journey. Our school has been on a rapid journey of improvement, something that was recognised in July 2019 when our school was judged outstanding in all categories in its Diocesan Section 48 inspection. Our exam results in Modern Foreign Language exam results last year were exceptional, with 73% of all students passing French and 83% passing Spanish. Our challenge this year is to improve even further on that.

In September 2024, we open our Sixth Form and there will be an opportunity to teach A-Level Spanish.

The Modern Foreign Languages department is a creative and energetic team, who are always looking for new ways to deliver the curriculum that excite, stretch and provoke curiosity in our students. Their excellent results are evidence of their deep commitment to our students. We are seeking to recruit a new member of the Modern Foreign Languages team that will bring spark, energy and empathy to the department as it continues on its quest to be the best school in the country. We would be happy to receive applications from NQTs.

If you have a passion to see young people succeed, are motivated and resilient and support our Catholic ethos, please download an application pack from our website www.stromeros.co.uk. Please only use the application form included in the pack and follow the instructions on how to apply which can be found in the introductory letter.

For the right candidate, there is the opportunity for a TLR to lead an appropriate area of responsibility. If you think this is you, please contact the Headteacher to discuss further before submitting your application.

About St Oscar Romero Catholic School

Headteacher's Welcome Message

I am extremely proud to introduce and welcome you to St Oscar Romero’s Catholic School.

Our aim is simple, we want to be the best school in the country. This means that we can ‘hand on heart’ say that our students get a better deal than if they attended another school.

St Oscar Romero has been on an upward trend for the last six years. Last year, 86% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 (equivalent to a C grade or above) in both English and Maths and 60% of students achieved at least a Grade 5 (known as a strong pass) in both English and Maths. Departments across the school performed exceptionally well, with English, Maths and Science all securing results of 90%+ at a Grade 4+ or above.  Our Progress 8 score was +0.97, placing us in the top 2% of school's in the country.

In May 2023, Ofsted carried out a short inspection and concluded that ‘There is enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the school could be judged outstanding, if we were to carry out a section 5 inspection now.’ Our last Diocesan Section 48 Inspection took place in July 2019 and judged the school as ‘Outstanding’ in every category. This was a first for the school and a proud moment in the school’s 65-year history.

As a Catholic School, St Oscar Romero’s is founded on Gospel values. We provide a nurturing environment of love, respect and discipline, where every individual is highly valued and our care and concern for others is central to our mission. We expect our students to work hard, behave well, dress smartly and pursue excellence in all that they do inside and outside of the classroom. Our culture is one of high expectations in all that we do.

I invite you to experience St Oscar Romero’s Catholic School first-hand by having a tour of our school and I look forward to meeting you in the future.

Mr Byrne
