Teacher of Music

Permanent, Full Time

Teachers’ Main pay scale: M1-U3

Start Date: January 2023 or earlier if possible

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of Music to join our successful Performing Arts Department.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for the subject and will strive to continually improve standards within the Department.  This post would suit both experienced and newly qualified teachers.

The Performing Arts department at Brookfield Community School is thriving with regular performances and productions throughout the year; music is at the core of these events.  We have a dedicated student choir, performance band, woodwind group and guitar club with a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to grow our extra-curricular provision.  The music department has a dedicated practical classroom with a suite of rehearsal spaces along with an ICT Sibelius classroom.  As part of the Redhill Academy Trust we can access a range of resources and CPD to enhance your specialism and work with other specialists across Derbyshire and Nottingham; music teachers from across the Trust support each other with moderation, standardisation and assessment.  We have a dedicated team of peripatetic staff who work closely with our music department to support events and GCSE practical work.

This truly is a fantastic opportunity to work within a high performing team of staff along with talented musicians as part of a successful department.

Brookfield Community School is a large 11-18 school with 1080 students on roll situated on the western edge of Chesterfield and next to the Peak District National Park.  We are part of Redhill Academy Trust. The Academy is also a member of Redhill College of Leadership and Development and as such there are excellent CPD opportunities and a chance to work alongside colleagues from other high-performing schools in the region. The Trust also leads the regional Teaching School Hub delivering local teacher training and the National Professional Qualifications for teachers.

Brookfield Community School

This is a very popular, over-subscribed school in a pleasant suburb to the west of Chesterfield, close to the Peak District National Park.  We currently have over 1100 students, including a vibrant sixth form.  This is a school with a rich history and a reputation as a truly inclusive school and one which places great value on academic achievement.  An extensive co-curricular offer for all students is another defining characteristic of the school.  We have a strong and discernible ethos based around high expectations and impeccable behaviour.

We expect a lot from our students in every area of school life.  Celebrating academic achievement is a very significant part of what we do and the school has very strong results at GCSE and A level.

At Brookfield we recognise the vital role that education can play in the lives of young people.  Education should be an extremely rich experience - an experience in itself and not just a preparation for the next stage of life.   Our mission is to develop confident, articulate, resilient and well-qualified young people who are empowered to change the world.  The school, in terms of its academic outcomes, performs well, but it is our aim that the school is in the top 10% of schools nationally, and one with a regional and national reputation for the quality of the high-quality, rounded education it provides.

In March 2019 Brookfield formally joined Redhill Academy Trust.  This represents an enormous opportunity for the school.  The principles at the heart of Redhill are in line with those of the school.  These are based on high expectations for all students, the value of academic achievement, high quality teaching and learning and the importance of widening students’ experiences.  Staff at Brookfield are working closely with Redhill and benefiting from the support the Trust offers, such as participation in subject networks and bespoke training programmes.  Brookfield staff are already contributing to the wider support that Redhill offers to other schools.

This is a wonderful school with outstanding students, supportive parents and dedicated staff.  This enviable combination is a key reason behind the success – and enormous potential – of Brookfield Community School.
