TEACHER OF MUSIC

Required September 2023

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Are you passionate about music and about how to engage young people so they achieve their very best? Do you enjoy working with others to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning in music?

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher or one new to the profession to join our highly committed, supportive and experienced music department. Our music department has excellent accommodation and is very well resourced, with four fully equipped practice rooms, a recording studio and two other dedicated teaching spaces both equipped with keyboards, ukuleles, guitars, a drum kit and computer workstations. All of our teaching staff are provided with their own laptop.

The successful candidate will want to bring their passion and enthusiasm for music to encourage, motivate and engage our students from Year 7 to Year 13, and continue to raise standards in this high performing area. We currently offer GCSE Music teaching the Pearson Edexcel course, assist with the delivery of the BTEC Performing Arts A-Level, and have plans to re-introduce the Pearson Edexcel A-Level Music course. Our music and drama departments work collaboratively on a variety of performing arts events including whole school musicals and concerts. A commitment to extra-curricular music clubs and trips is essential.

Our oversubscribed school again achieved a ‘GOOD’ rating in its Ofsted inspection in June 2022 and we have a commitment to supporting students in developing as well-rounded individuals as well as achieving their academic potential.

Great Baddow High School is very well thought of locally. Our motto, which translates as ‘always striving for higher things’ encapsulates our vision for our students and staff.

Our curriculum, enhanced by many enrichment opportunities, clubs, trips and visits, is broad and varied. We aim to support students in achieving their potential both academically and as well-rounded, confident individuals; we are equally committed to the professional development of our staff.

We believe that high expectations in a disciplined but friendly learning environment are essential and respect for oneself and others underpins this. Outstanding pastoral care ensures students feel happy and safe and are, therefore, best placed to succeed.

Many of our students progress into our Sixth Form where they are joined by others from elsewhere. They make an important contribution to the life of the school, involving themselves in a wide range of activities including World Challenge, and supporting younger students in a variety of ways. Sixth formers enjoy their own common room, café and study areas.
