Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally.  Following Ofsted’s latest inspection in 2016, The National School and College Performance Tables not only identify Queen Mary’s College as one of the best in the region, but it also places it in the top 15% of all A- level providers across the country.

The Performing Arts Department is a thriving and dynamic area which caters for over 360 students studying a range of A-level, vocational and enrichment courses in Music, Music Technology, Performing Arts, Drama and Dance.  Staff have high expectations of all students and working relationships are positive and supportive.  There is an excellent record of student achievement on all courses.  Staff work closely together in planning the delivery of courses, developing teaching materials and exchanging ideas, resources and teaching strategies.  The department values an approach to teaching Music, not only as a subject in in own right, but as a core component of wider performing arts courses.

Our Performing Arts mission is to develop creativity and academic excellence for our students by:

Lessons take place in dedicated teaching rooms with excellent facilities for music, music technology, drama and dance. Students benefit from access to high quality teaching, recording and performing spaces. The college has its own purpose-built theatre on site, Central Studio. QMC has invested in the performing arts by building a new Music Centre which was completed in October 2013, The Charles Butler Building, opened by Dame Evelyn Glennie. The building includes a new recording studio, recital room and five practice rooms as well as being fully equipped with the latest sound and recording technology meeting the needs of the music industry and enabling students to learn the correct use of technical equipment, specific to their chosen career.

Whether you’re experienced or newly qualified, you should be an inspiring teacher with a good working knowledge of recent post-16 curriculum developments.  A willingness to contribute to the development of course materials for courses offered by the department is also essential. Some evening work contributing to our performances is required.

Queen Mary’s College is a large progressive and successful sixth form college, conveniently situated close to the centre of Basingstoke in thirty acres of parkland and playing fields. The College has excellent facilities, including the Central Studio (a professional theatre), and a purpose built sports centre for students, staff and local residents, including a swimming pool and two floodlit artificial sports pitches . The site also boasts a state of the art specialist Art and IT building and in January this year a new £12.8 million, three-storey facility was opened designed to accommodate Science, Humanities, Sport and students with learning difficulties and disabilities . Queen Mary’s College is continuing to enhance all aspects of estates and facilities. Teaching and Learning outcomes at the College are excellent. Staff and students enjoy working and studying here and being in the vanguard of educational development in a fast changing 14-19 environment.
