About Gravesend Grammar School

Gravesend Grammar School is a selective secondary academy based in
Gravesend, Kent, for boys aged 11-18 with girls admitted to the Sixth Form.
It is a non-denominational school.

Headteacher

Values and vision

Uniquely, Gravesend Grammar School has reduced the number of teachers at Key Stage 3, by using specialist teachers who are highly skilled in delivering a range of subjects. This additional time spent with students helps create deep and lasting relationships and ensures teachers are very aware of individual student progress and pastoral needs.

The boys' school offers a wealth of opportunities for students to participate in concerts and productions. It recently adopted an Arts Award for all of its lower school students.

In sport, the secondary school is linked with many clubs including Gravesend Rugby Club, Old Gravesendians’ Rugby Club, Gravesham Hockey Club, Northfleet Badminton Club, Iroquois Basketball Club, Gravesham Tennis Club, and Gravesend and Meopham Cricket Clubs. These links allow the school to enhance its provision externally by using specialist facilities and coaching.

Ofsted report

“Teachers have the highest expectations for all of the students. Staff benefit from an excellent training programme that makes sure all are up to date and always developing their expertise. All of the students attain very high standards and make excellent progress as a result of the quality of the teaching they receive and as a result of their own ambition and positive attitudes to learning. The sixth form provides an excellent preparation for students’ next steps in life whether at university or in training and employment.”
