Job overview

Scarborough Sixth Form College has an excellent and well-deserved reputation in the wider community for the quality of its provision.  Music is an essential and vibrant part of the College’s offer and one which we are growing in terms of student numbers, courses offered and presence in the College and local communities.

Music is taught in a modern, purpose built classrooms with a dedicated computer suite and specialist software. There are also a number of well-equipped practice music rooms. Achievement in Music is good and in 2016-17 there were 100% pass rates at AS and A Level. However, for the right candidate there is still the opportunity to improve results even further, in particular by helping students to achieve the ‘next grade up’ and consequently improving the progress made by these learners. The successful applicant will therefore be a highly skilled musician, who is able to provide accurate guidance to our most talented music students, whilst also being able to inspire and encourage students to develop and practise more basic practical and theoretical competence.

An important feature of the role is to build on the College’s reputation and strengthen links with Music students and teachers in local partner schools, the Music Centre and other institutions in the surrounding area, with the ultimate aim of improving recruitment to this important subject. Additionally it is essential for musical activity among students within College to be promoted and developed by the successful candidate.

The right candidate will be committed, hard-working and have a desire to bring Music to life with imaginative learning activities, content targeted to the specification, and relevant well-managed assessment. You would be well supported, and would look forward to contributing to a committed hard-working team and sharing the rewards of teaching our learners.

The contract will be on a permanent variable basis commencing 1st September 2019

Closing Date: Midnight, Sunday 31st March 2019

Please ensure you use the Supporting Information Section of the Application Form to explain how your skills, experience and attributes make you suitable for the post. Please do not include a C.V.

Interviews are provisionally arranged for Thursday 11th April 2019
