TEACHER OF MUSIC

TMS/UPS

Full Time and Permanent – September 2023

We are seeking an outstanding Music teacher to join our highly successful Performing Arts Faculty.

The Music Department at Shireland Collegiate Academy is extremely well resourced, including a Mac suite with 15 state of the art Macs, recording studio and numerous practice rooms with high quality rock and pop instruments, including whole class sets of acoustic guitars and ukuleles. We also have an excellent theatre for performances. We enjoy an excellent relationship with the Sandwell Music and Arts Service who provide instrumental tuition and some classroom support and have a growing relationship with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. We run a variety of after-school clubs and ensembles, and students regularly access the department at break and lunch times. Students who wish to learn an instrument can apply to be part of our Music Scholarship programme. Currently over 60 students access this provision, on a range of both contemporary and classical instruments.

The department is part of the Performing Arts Faculty and works closely alongside Dance and Drama to allow students the opportunity to access all areas of the Performing Arts. In Key Stage 4, from September 2022, students study the BTEC Technical Award in Music. In KS5 they complete the RSL Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma for Music Practitioners, which has achieved outstanding results in the last few years.

The Academy’s strong staff development focus makes this an ideal post for teachers wishing to develop their career. Candidates should be able to respond to the busy and caring atmosphere of this outstanding Academy, be able to promote excellent results, be committed to extracurricular activities and be fully involved in school life.

For an informal discussion or to arrange to visit the school please contact our Human Resources Director on 0121 565 811.

A co-educational academy, the school first opened as an academy in 2007, having been founded a hundred years prior, and is fully managed by the Collegiate Academy Trust. The trust is only responsible for the management of Shireland Collegiate Academy. The school has a large and extremely diverse catchment area, a fact reflected in its student intake. Shireland Collegiate Academy, also has special provision for students with Special Educational Needs, as a result a higher-than-average number of these students attend the school.

Values and Vision

The curriculum at Shireland Collegiate Academy is unusual, both in terms of structure and teaching. The school has a very strong focus on technology, with ICT playing a huge role in the education of students across all subjects. In terms of organisation, Key Stage 3 students at the school spend a great deal of time with the same teacher, and older students follow a curriculum focused on equipping students with a diverse skill-set reflective of the modern workplace.

Ofsted

“This is an exceptional academy, which has maintained and built upon the very high standards seen at the last inspection. n Students, staff and parents are, quite rightly, proud to be associated with this academy. As one student said, ‘I feel privileged to be a student here.’”
