Job overview

Music has always been an integral part of life at Dunottar School. Pupils take part in a broad programme of co-curricular music activities and a busy schedule of recitals, concerts and trips. As examples of recent activities, our pupils have had the opportunity to perform at the Lyceum Theatre and an England rugby fixture at the Olympic Stadium. We also work collaboratively with our Performing Arts Department to put on an annual musical production.

From an academic perspective, pupils receive a weekly double music lesson throughout the year for Years 7, 8 and 9. Edexcel GCSE Music is offered to pupils, as well as the provision to study A Level Music and Music Technology.

As a result both of our school’s expansion, and the ever increasing uptake of music (both as an academic subject and for co-curricular activities), we are looking for a highly skilled and enthusiastic music teacher who shares our passion for musical learning, and can help us build on our thriving music community. The ideal candidate will have the vision, enthusiasm and energy to help develop further the work of the department, alongside contributing to the school’s co-curricular programme. A high level of competence on the keyboard is essential and candidates will be expected to demonstrate this at interview.

Dunottar is a co-educational school for pupils aged 11-18 set in extensive grounds of 15 acres on the outskirts of Reigate. With a new Headmaster in September 2017, the school is on a very exciting journey.  The school is experiencing fast growth in pupil numbers and it recently announced a £6.6Million capital development programme to build a new Sixth Form Centre and a whole school Assembly Hall to accommodate future growth.

Dunottar is a great place to work, with a team of highly professional and committed teachers and support staff.  We incorporate best practice from independent schools and academies right across the United Learning Group, whilst retaining our unique, friendly ethos in Reigate where pupils are nurtured to make significant personal progress at the same time as achieving excellent academic results.  United Learning is an outstanding organisation which prides itself on providing a working and learning environment which encourages ‘the best in everyone’.  You will join a network of staff belonging to 60 other schools, with opportunities to engage with fellow professionals which far exceed what one school could achieve on its own.  Personal development and career opportunities are excellent.
