King’s School Rochester seek an inspiring and enthusiastic Teacher of Music Theory to deliver theory lessons to Cathedral Choristers across the Prep and Senior Schools. The music department at King’s is a friendly, busy environment in which pupils thrive: Last year alone, alumni have won places to study music at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (Violin) and Guildhall School of Music and Drama (violin); pupils in the Lower Sixth hold places in the National Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Training Choirs and a number of pupils are involved with Kent County Music ensembles. A King’s pupil also won the Woodard Schools’ Young Musician competition in May 2020.

The choral tradition at King’s remains one of the pillars of the school: The Cathedral Choristers have been educated at King’s for centuries and the school has had a close association with the Cathedral since its founding in 604AD. Last year, the senior choir made a CD in the cathedral and joined pupils from other schools in the Woodard Schools’ Choral Festival. Since January 2019, theory lessons for Choristers have been taught at King’s school and this is an arrangement we seek to continue.

King’s Rochester is a mixed, non-selective, Church of England, all-through school with nursery classes and sixth form situated in Rochester, Kent. It is an independent school with boarding provision and an associate member of the Woodard Foundation. A smaller than average school, King’s Rochester provides 800 places for nursery, preparatory, senior and sixth-form students between the ages of 3 and 18 when fully subscribed.
The oldest choir school and the second oldest school in the world, King’s Rochester has roots dating back to the founding of Rochester Cathedral in the year 604 AD. King Henry VIII refounded the school in 1542.

There is an easy mix of the different cultures within the school. Pupils develop well in knowledge, skills and understanding. Some more able pupils achieve excellent standards in activities, for example in music, individually in sports, and in the performing arts.”
