Giggleswick School is seeking to appoint an outstanding Woodwind Teacher to teach individual pupils from beginner level to grade 8 and potentially beyond. The successful candidate would be expected to prepare pupils for examinations and performances both within and outside school as appropriate. The Woodwind Teacher will work with the Director of Music and the Junior School Music to develop Woodwind throughout the school.

The post would suit a graduate with an instrumental teaching qualification. Enthusiasm and experience of working with younger pupils would be an advantage. 

Nearly half of the Senior School and 90% of Junior School pupils are taught musical instruments, and nearly half take part in one or more of the musical ensembles.  

Key responsibilities will include:

• teaching Woodwind to pupils ranging from beginner level to post grade 8, ability to teach all brass instruments is essential (including Oboe, Clarinet and Saxophone). There is already Flute teacher, so it is not a requirement to be able to teach Flute;

• preparing pupils for examinations and performances as appropriate;

• by helping the pupils to learn their parts for any potential performances;

• developing Woodwind throughout the school;

• report writing;

• supporting the work of the music department in general;

• potentially performing in school concerts throughout the year;

• the ability to play the piano is preferable;


The successful candidate will have the following suitable qualifications, skills, experience and attributes 

• proven ability as a practical musician;

• a degree from a university or Music college or recognised teaching qualification such as CTABRSM;

• genuine interest in teaching;

• teaching experience with a proven track record in achieving examination success;

• ability to communicate effectively with children and young people;

• being capable of working effectively as part of a team and able to take initiative;

• have plenty of energy, enthusiasm and a good sense of humour;

• have strong organisational and IT skills;

• be able to commit to weekly lessons; Instrumental lessons (20 – 30 mins each) are scheduled according to the school timetable and a weekly rota is published.  Lessons commence at 8.40 am and end at 4.30 pm.  There are likely to be approximately 10-15 lessons per week scheduled by mutual agreement with the Director of Music.

This Independent Boarding and Day School is set in beautiful grounds in the centre of Giggleswick village and within short walking distance of Settle.  Staff are able to benefit from free School dinners, free parking and use the School facilities, including the gym and swimming pool.
