Sport is one of Central Foundation Boys’ School’s strengths. The School has a sport tradition going back to its foundation in 1865. With a variety of disciplines on offer and sport being accessible for every student at the School, we have developed strong teams across all Year groups that perform at both local and national level. 

Some of the recent successes of our students include: 

  • Year 7 football team – Champions of Islington and Camden 6-a-side tournament
  • Year 9 football team – Champions of Hackney and Tower Hamlets league (3 years in a row) 
  • Year 9 football team – Champions of Islington and Camden Cup
  • Year 11 football team - Champions of Islington and Camden Cup
  • Year 7, 8 and 9 students – Champions of Islington School Swimming Gala
  • Year 10/11 team – Champions of Islington and Camden Badminton tournament
  • Year 7-9 team – Champions of Islington and Camden Table Tennis tournament  
  • Year 10 football team – semi-finalists of the National Schools Football League
  • Year 9-11 Team - Champions of Islington Cross-Country League 
  • Year 7-9 - Champions of Islington Cricket League 

The students participate in a wide range of sport disciplines including:

PE facilities:

The department is supported by a full-time PE Administrator who supports the organisation of fixtures and after school activities.  

About Central Foundation: 

Located on the Old Street Silicon Roundabout and at the heart of the Tech City, the School is one of the top performing non-selective all boys schools in the country. The students’ outcomes have been consistently outstanding both at KS4 and KS5. In 2019, 82% of our Year 11 students achieved a good pass (Grade C/4 or above) in both English and Maths while 36% of Year 11 students achieved a grade 7, 8 or 9. The School was rated outstanding by Ofsted in 2015.  

The School offers a broad curriculum with a focus on academic subjects as well as vocational education. Our extra-curricular provision not only supports the students’ experience in a classroom but also allows the students to develop new skills and interests in sport, music, drama, art, debating or cooking. 

The School has a strong sense of community and a diverse student body with currently 64 first languages spoken by the students and 70 different ethnicities recorded on the school census this academic year.  

The School is one of the beneficiaries of The Dulwich Estate and a portion of the funds received from The Dulwich Estate is used to provide the extra-curricular sport activities including an annual ski trip to Switzerland, Austria or Italy.
