An exciting temporary opportunity has arisen from September 2018 for a talented and inspirational teacher of Physical Education, with the flexibility within the department to teach predominantly boys’ classes. This post is temporary to cover maternity leave which is anticipated to be until mid May 2019.
The PE and games department has a high profile and reputation for excellence with a very strong curricular and co-curricular programme, as well as a good academic record at Advanced level for those students who choose to pursue their studies in external examinations.
Saturday and after-school fixtures (including training sessions) are a significant element in the success of our teams, with both ‘A' and ‘B’ team provision allowing for a large number of pupils and students to be included. In recent years our teams have won seven national netball titles and one national rugby title, and have regularly progressed to compete in the finals of national competitions. On an individual level, our students have earned selection to county and national teams in netball, rugby, rounders, golf and table tennis.
Our sports facilities are extensive with a 25m swimming pool, sports hall, squash courts and weight training room and outdoor facilities that include seven tennis and five netball courts, two astro turf flood-lit hockey pitches, an athletics track, 4 cricket pitches and nine rugby pitches. The department is lively and innovative, with eleven dedicated staff members of staff, including a full-time sports technician.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in major games and play a full part in this busy department including the extensive extra-curricular programme which includes regular after school and Saturday fixtures. Expertise in coaching, together with experience in teaching at least one of our major sports will be an advantage and the ability to teach PE to A level is desirable.
Colleagues have the opportunity to participate in the wide range of co-curricular activities available within the school and to support the house system.
There are also a range of generous non contractual benefits available including salary sacrifice schemes and access to the school gym and pool.
