Job overview

St George's is a thriving independent boarding and day school of 270 girls aged 11-18 around 45% of whom are boarders (full, weekly and flexi) and with a Sixth Form of approximately 80 pupils. St George's offers an ambitious, connected and future-facing education tailored for pupils to realise their potential both at school and in fulfilling adult lives ahead.

Awarded 'excellent across the board' in its November 2022 ISI inspection, the School is a place where girls flourish academically, creatively, physically and morally, a place where risks can be taken, lessons are learnt and challenges are welcome.

We are a welcoming school with a warm sense of community. Visitors are impressed by our facilities within a beautiful setting and the ambition of our educational provision.

Our unique extended day and flexible boarding model allows all girls the time and space to foster confidence, independence and academic curiosity providing a future-facing education exclusively for girls in a world not yet designed for girls and introduces them to contemporary subjects and topics, through speakers, workshops, classes and visits.

St George's offers an education that is grounded, relevant and fosters employability. The school operates as an Educational Trust administered by a Board of Governors, is a member of the Girls' Schools Association (GSA), Boarding Schools Association (BSA) ISBA, AGBIS and is ISC accredited.

We have a single vacancy for either a Teacher of PE (with Football Specialism) OR a Sports Coach to start at the beginning of the Autumn Term (September 2024).

The School has exciting plans for its football provision. Whilst there is already great enthusiasm for the sport, we are looking for an inspirational and proficient Teacher of PE OR a Sports Coach to further lead the development of the game as one of the School's most significant sporting activities. The successful candidate should be confident in teaching and officiating football with the capacity to take on the leadership and development of the sport within the School. The successful candidate will also support the inspirational teaching and coaching of Physical Education in the curriculum.

The appointed candidate should hold an undergraduate degree in Physical Education or Sports Science (or a closely related discipline) or have experience in delivering an effective sports programme in a school context. Applications from NQT's are welcome.

This is a SINGLE full-time post for the academic year and the successful candidate will be appointed on a Fixed Term Contract.

The post involves supporting after school fixtures and working on Saturdays (some time off during the working week is provided, proportionally, in lieu of the Saturday commitment). There will be a requirement to attend routine teaching events such as parents’ evenings, teaching staff meetings, staff training days preceding each term, and Open Days and Educational Days (as notified).

St George's operates its own generous salary scheme and all teaching staff are auto-enrolled into the APTIS Pension Scheme unless they opt out. Non -qualified teaching members of School staff are enrolled into The Pensions Trust.

Additional Staff benefits include:

  • Use of state-of-the-art gym with Technogym equipment at allocated times
  • Staff swimming sessions and family swimming sessions in the recently built 25m, 6-lane indoor pool
  • Supportive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme
  • Ample free onsite parking
  • Freshly prepared, nutritious lunches in the Dining Room during term time. Refreshments are also available throughout the day in the Staff Room.
  • Meals and refreshments are free of charge.
  • The post holder’s children may, upon passing the entrance assessments, be eligible at the discretion of the Governors for a reduction on the basic tuition fees.

Job Application Packs are available for both roles.

St George’s School is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children at the School. A review of open source social media and online content will be conducted after candidates have been shortlisted and you may be asked about this at interview. The appointment will be subject to a successful disclosure check from the Disclosure and Barring Service. This will give details of all spent and unspent convictions and other recordable matters. A policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders is available, if required, from the School Office. About St George's School

St George’s is a girls’ independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18 years. We are located approximately 25 miles west of central London on a beautiful, leafy 30 acre site, within walking distance of Ascot High Street. We are a welcoming school with a warm sense of community and visitors often comment on the perceptible supportive and cheerful atmosphere.

Most girls join St George's in Year 7; there are around 35 girls in each of the first two years and we keep class sizes deliberately small so that each girl is individually known. An additional class is added at Year 9 with girls joining from 13+ prep schools and girls may also join in the Sixth Form, and occasionally in Year 8 and Year 10.

We believe that a happy and successful school is one where all pupils have the opportunities to develop their strengths. The richness of opportunities within and outside the classroom are fundamental elements of the St George's experience. This allows the girls to foster the confidence, independence and academic curiosity that lead to success.

Our academic results are impressive, with the 'value-added' in public examinations a real strength. We understand how girls learn effectively and we regularly add at least one grade higher at GCSE and A Level than baseline testing would suggest. As the girls progress through the school, bespoke advice on subject options, universities and careers as part of a thorough academic tracking process, gives each girl and her parents a sense of where her strengths lie and where she should be heading.

We also offer an extensive range of opportunities, clubs and activities with a significant focus on the arts, music and sport. The girls work hard and play hard, they value each other's abilities and there is a positive an supportive pastoral and boarding ethos.

St George's is a place where girls flourish academically, creatively, physically and morally , a place where risks can be taken, lessons are learnt and challenges are welcomed. We strive for the very best for our girls and by developing their love of learning, their academic potential and their individual talents, we are able to nurture them to become happy, responsible, well balanced and resilient young women in the twenty-first century.
