It is recognised for its long-standing tradition of academic excellence and for its friendly, inclusive, caring approach to the needs of young people. We are very proud of what we do here, of our record of student and staff success, and of the lives that we change during the time that students spend with us.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Performing Arts (Drama and Music) to join our dedicated and well-resourced Performing Arts Curriculum Area. We welcome applications from both NQTs and experienced teachers who will receive dedicated support to enhance their professional development and teaching and learning practice. From September 2017 the Drama Department will be led by a new head of department. At KS4 we offer Edexcel BTEC Level 1 / Level 2 in Performing Arts with pupils focusing on Acting Skills for Unit 3. The vision for the future will explore and redefine the pedagogy of the performing arts and establish a more vocational approach to the teaching and learning. Working in partnership with local venues, groups and institutions the work will prepare individuals for the competitive performing arts industry. The department will work in collaboration with the Music department with several productions and projects already planned. Further extra-curricular clubs will be launched to include a musical theatre course and one for general performance. These will complement the established work that we do with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the learning and performing of Shakespeare. You will lead one or more of these extra-curricular activities as well as assist in the directing of the school productions. You will also participate in the planning and preparation of schemes of work and participate in the regular monitoring, assessing and recording of students’ work, consistent with Curriculum Area and whole school policies.
The successful candidate will join a team committed to delivering a stimulating curriculum and maximising the potential of all learners through outstanding learning and teaching. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a track record of high quality classroom practice (either in teaching practice or in current post), a strong team ethic, and knowledge of the curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Performing Arts is considered one of the school’s outstanding Curriculum Areas. There is scope to contribute to future development through collaborative planning, resource development and delegated leadership of key areas. The successful candidate will be expected to share the team’s drive, ambition and reflective practice.

NQTs will be subject to a one year probationary period. We are looking to recruit on a permanent basis – the successful applicant will be given an initial one year contract after which they will be confirmed in the permanent job dependent on performance and meeting the standards of the school.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
