Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Teacher of Physical Education to join one of Kenya’s leading schools – in fact, one of the top schools on the whole African continent.

Kenyan education is recognised as generally excellent; about a dozen UK-style schools are at the forefront of Kenyan education, and Peponi is at the forefront of those schools. As an HMC member school, it enjoys an outstanding reputation and places at the school are much in demand. Our aim is to provide education of the highest standard, within a very friendly and supportive community. The student body is enthusiastic and very capable, coming from Kenyan families as well as from the ex-pat and international communities, and pupils leave Peponi for leading universities in the UK, USA and around the world.

Our 65-acre campus contains extensive sports facilities, many of them new following major investment.  These include a running track, squash courts, a new golf driving range and one of the best cricket ovals and squares in the country.  These are a fabulous addition to our already built swimming pool, all-weather tennis and basketball courts and superb football, hockey, netball and rugby pitches.

PE is taught at IGCSE and A Level, and as Teacher of Physical Education you will have broad involvement in delivering and managing the formal curriculum.  The sports department as a whole is highly committed, with full-time coaches and a very large and active extra-curricular sport and exercise programme.  Our pupils embrace all this with great enthusiasm!

As well as being an excellent class practitioner, what we really want is someone who can genuinely excite and inspire our pupils, someone who is truly passionate about sport and exercise and who can inspire that same passion in our pupils, and someone who will go the extra mile to stimulate them and help them go further than they ever dreamed they could. You must be able to support each individual’s growth and development, encouraging them to achieve and be the best they can be.  You will of course have a strongly can-do mindset.

As a boarding and day school, we will also expect you to participate in and contribute to the life of the School as a whole. This will be enjoyable because of the happy, collegiate atmosphere, and we have a wide range of pastoral programmes and extra-curricular activities.

Our staff enjoy excellent working conditions including accommodation, a generous and comprehensive reward package, and significant amounts of personal and professional development. There is a great team spirit in our Common Room. If you join us you will achieve great job satisfaction and excellent experience, and you will enjoy a first-class quality of life in a wonderful location. Kenya is a fabulous country.

If you’re excited by the sound of all this, please download the briefing brochure and the application form. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have and completed forms should be emailed direct to our advising consultant, Simon Shneerson, at applicants@peponischool.org

Face to face or Teams/Zoom interviews will be arranged on dates that are mutually convenient, starting as soon as we receive applications.   Please apply as quickly as you can.    Closing date is 11 am on Tuesday, 31st May.

Please note we are re-advertising this post as the person who had been offered it is no longer able to join us. Previous applicants from February/March 2022 do not need to re-apply as their applications will be automatically reconsidered.

Peponi School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants will be subject to child protection screening, including checks with past employers, the UK Disclosure and Barring Service and/or authorities in other countries.
