The Role

We are looking for a passionate, talented and rigorous practitioner to join our dedicated team in leading the School on its journey to becoming an established community school.

The successful candidate will have the exciting and unique opportunity to work with a KS3, KS4 and KS5 curriculum that is bespoke, challenging and fit for the needs of 21st Century life. There will be opportunities for leadership roles as the School grows.   

Our new PE teacher will embrace innovation and will always be looking for the very best practice in teaching. They will share the School's vision and the belief that all young people can achieve at high levels.

PE and healthy living is very much at the heart of what we do. We compete in local tournaments and have a vertical house system to allow inter-house competitions. Hoe Valley School uses the excellent sports facilities onsite (Woking Sportsbox) to deliver the PE curriculum and has an exciting sports enrichment programme. The facilities were designed in partnership with Woking FC and is a shared-use site with a new state-of-the-art leisure centre. 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (IN ADDITION TO TEACHERS’ STANDARDS)

Teaching and Learning

  • To teach PE within the age range 11-18 and to deliver a second subject at KS3 if required
  • To contribute to the design of programmes of study and to take responsibility for lesson planning
  • To ensure that all pupils are making good or outstanding progress in PE and to intervene effectively if students are at risk of underachieving
  • To contribute to CPD across the School where appropriate and share best practice via collaborative planning and following an 'open door' teaching policy
  • To ensure that the classroom presents a stimulating environment through the display of student's work and other exemplar materials
  • To extend the curriculum via supporting relevant trips, organising exciting visits from relevant speakers and visitors and leading enrichment programmes
  • To contribute to the extra-curricular and enrichment activities of the School, running at least one additional activity per week
  • To support project led learning, which links to the world of work, further, and higher education, primary school liaison or the local community
  • To deploy other adults effectively involving them, where appropriate, in the planning and management of student learning
  • To lead and run PE activities outside of the curriculum including sports day and fixtures with other schools
  • To be a tutor if required

Progress and Attainment

  • To ensure assessment, feedback and monitoring is SMART, accurate and clearly moves students’ learning on
  • To feedback to students and parents / carers in line with the School policy
  • To standardise marking with colleagues both within the School and with partner schools
  • To rigorously analyse student data to inform planning and intervention programmes
  • To attend internal and external meetings as directed

Behaviour, Welfare and Safety

  • To ensure the absolute safety of all students on and off site
  • To monitor the progress and well-being of all members of a tutor group as required and follow up with students and parents appropriately
  • To attend year group meetings as required
  • To register students, accompany them to assemblies, encourage their attendance at school and develop their participation in all aspects of school life
  • To monitor students’ achievement, attendance, uniform, punctuality and behaviour and to promptly follow up on issues in line with the School’s policies
  • To contribute to the Literacy, Numeracy, PSHE and Citizenship programme as required

Leading School Improvement

  • To embody the School’s values both on and off site
  • To contribute to the School’s Development Plan and School Evaluation Form
  • To monitor relevant budgets and ensure value for money at all times
  • To coach and mentor colleagues as appropriate
  • To ensure any documentation produced is to a high standard and is in line with the brand style
  • To be aware of and comply with all policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person
  • To participate in the School’s Performance Management process
  • To represent the School at events as appropriate
  • To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required, which are covered by the general scope of the post
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties at the request of the Head Teacher

  • To promote and market the School and contribute to a smooth and effective transition for new students
  • To support the School’s marketing and recruitment plan
