Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of a Teacher of Physics to join a College based in Cambridgeshire.

The Physics department is made up of six teaching staff and one technician. Subjects are taught at Edexcel IGCSE and A-level (both traditional 2-year programmes and their 18-month courses, beginning in January rather than September – catering for overseas markets with alternative timelines). They also offer their unique university preparation course, the International Foundation Programme in Engineering (one of 4 pathways), as an alternative level 3 course for students with a specific university pathway and those that prefer a modular assessment route.

The Physics department is a friendly and collaborative team from a range of backgrounds. The diversity of their students and staff creates an open and engaging culture, built around mutual respect, humour and the sharing of best practice. The team meets regularly to discuss key elements of transferable teaching practice, student support and intervention. Differentiated resources and detailed schemes of work are available for all courses but individual teacher adaption is encouraged and welcomed.

Some particularly unique aspects of their Physics department include the Celestron telescope (controlled by a Sky-Walker EQ6 Pro) and their new QIDI Tech X-Plus 3D printer. They are a department with no shortage of equipment. All Physics classes are taught in their fully functional and state-of-the-art wet labs (built in 2016): there’s even a Van der Graaf generator in each of them! They’ve also recently made a sizeable investment into PASCO Capstone and SparkVue software as a serious upgrade to how they use their array of PASCO sensors. Each of these is now fitted with a PASCO Air Link device for wireless transfer and display of real-time experiment data onto either the 64-inch Legamaster interactive displays that exist in each of their labs or the teacher’s own college-provided Surface Pro.

Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  •  Delivering high quality lessons.
  • Facilitating the college’s goal of high student academic achievement.
  • Informing parents about student progress.
  • Engaging in the college’s pastoral care for all students in the college.
  • Engaging in appraisals and reviews, and taking part in training and development.

Qualifications and Experience

Teaching international students at GCSE and A-level should be a passion for you and to be considered for this position you must hold a degree-level qualification and teaching qualification, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance and proof of right to work in the UK. Knowledge of the appropriate curricula would also be beneficial.
