About St Leonard's Catholic School

St Leonard’s is a highly successful 11-18 school in the historic City of Durham.  We are committed to the holistic development of young people through a broad, challenging curriculum and supportive pastoral care.

Staff, pupils and parents take pride in the school and its clear Catholic ethos. There is a shared understanding of high expectations in all areas of school life.

Situated just a short walk from Durham train and bus stations, the school is within sight of both castle and cathedral. We enjoy close links with Durham University and the other universities in the region.

Owing to its reputation and consistent success, the school is over-subscribed welcoming 8 full forms of entry each September. Setting is introduced gradually during key stage 3 with SEND support provided where appropriate.

Students from St Leonard’s move on confidently to the next stages of their lives with many attaining places at the most competitive universities. Time and care are devoted to ensuring that all are appropriately guided both during school years and afterwards.

Students benefit from a good range of extra-curricular opportunities, encouraging both participation and excellence. Sports and the Arts are important features of school life together with many other activities and educational visits which contribute significantly to the education we provide.

St Leonard's became an academy in November 2016 and joined the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust in April 2020.
