Job overview

We are looking for a knowledgeable and reflective practitioner to teach Science at KS3 and Physics at KS4 and KS5.

Science is a popular subject in all Key Stages with approximately one third of students at Key Stage 4 choosing to study three separate Sciences to GCSE level.  All three Science subjects are popular at Key Stage 5 with a significant number of students opting to study Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics to A level.

At Heart of England we realise that our students can only thrive if our teachers thrive and a tired teacher with unnecessary or unproductive bureaucratic activities is unlikely to be that person.  We are trying to create a blueprint for how to make the job manageable and enjoyable, driven by a culture of trust and underpinned by individual integrity.  If you would like to see any of our policies before applying (e.g. our assessment policy) then please do ask.

We believe in agency and autonomy for our staff. We believe that the same intellectual curiosity that lead you to want to study your subject at university and then teach it to others is what makes you best placed to make decisions about the way you teach your subject now. We believe that when it comes to learning and teaching our motto, “No One Way … By Design” does not signify limitless variety.  Our focus is on evidence based teaching and the selection of the best method at the right time.  We all bring variety to our roles, however, excellent outcomes are forged through consistent application of what has been proven to work.

The department is currently working to ensure its assessment policy is low workload - high impact to secure the best for both our staff and pupils. We've also continued to adapt our behaviour policy with the motto 'Our Way…By Design' showing that shared values, defined habits, consistent routines and clear boundaries are the bedrock of a successful school. Another thing about us: we're not in to quick fixes or superficial tweaks; we're in it for sustainable excellence. Our vision outlines an ongoing process of continuous improvement and an adaptive, restless drive for the implementation of best practice grounded in educational research.

Attached to this advert is a description which aims to give a flavour of what the experience of teaching at Heart of England would be like. If you think we sound like the kind of place where you’d enjoy working then please come and visit, call for a chat, click on our website or simply apply.  The future you are seeking may well be here.

Heart of England School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post requires an enhanced DBS check.
