Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for a primary class, supporting, nurturing and taking a genuine interest in the holistic development of all children in that class;
- Work closely with the Headmaster and colleagues to ensure the effective delivery of the bilingual programme and to design and implement a relevant, challenging and rigorous curriculum;
- Plan and deliver lessons, ensuring attention is given to appropriate differentiation;
- Contribute to collaborative learning at all levels of school life;
- Create inquiry-based classrooms that develop critical thinking skills, knowledge and a range of skills within an environment based on trust and respect;
- Select relevant resources and digital tools to support and enhance learning;
- Develop appropriate assessment tasks, providing timely and effective feedback that enhances pupil’s learning;
- Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and colleagues in a professional manner;
- Write formal reports on a termly basis;
- Provide appropriate pastoral support as and when necessary;
- Contribute to the school’s House system as directed by the Head;
- Attend Parents’ Meetings, Open Mornings and CPD as appropriate;
- Play an active role in the school’s co-curricular programme.
Specific Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in English Language
- A recognised teaching qualification for the required age range (e.g. B.Ed., PGCE)
- Great level of English
- Minimum two years’ teaching experience in primary years education
- Previous experience of teaching overseas
- Good knowledge of the curriculum and experience of inquiry based teaching
- Ability to communicate with pupils, colleagues and parents, and to build strong relationships with all members of the school community
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Familiarity with various teaching resources including, where appropriate, digital tools to support and enhance teaching and learning
- Sensitivity to the cultural differences found in China and the willingness to develop and maintain a cross cultural approach to work
- A willingness and commitment to contribute fully to the life of the pupils and school beyond the academic day, including active participation in the academic enrichment and co-curricular programmes
- To assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs as may be reasonably requested by the Headmaster

Malvern College Chengdu provides a comprehensive K-12 education, beginning with a bilingual pre-school program that focuses on developing basic conversational skills in both languages. Following the British Curriculum, students are fostered in seven key areas and encouraged to explore independent learning through Forest School, and Reggio Emilia teaching methods.
In primary school, students are encouraged to use Chinese while also building a strong foundation in English. EARLY YEARS-FOREST SCHOOL
Malvern College Chengdu Early Years provides a comprehensive Forest School programme, led and taught by certified expatriate teachers possessing level three Forest School qualifications. This curriculum is the most extensive Forest School programme available in Chengdu and the entire southwestern region of China. Our Forest School education is tailored to children aged between 3 and 6 years old. Despite inclement weather conditions, barring extreme weather or heavy pollution, our teachers guide the children to engage with nature. By learning in this manner, children's sensory perception becomes heightened in response to natural stimuli, including sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
At Malvern College Chengdu, our primary education curriculum is designed to offer a unique blend of Chinese national curriculum and international education teaching and assessment methods. Our dedicated academic team has developed a rigorous curriculum that seamlessly integrates East and West, emphasising academic excellence and a well-rounded education.
Under our "Exploring the World" framework, we use interdisciplinary teaching methodologies that foster collaboration and encourage students to connect the dots between different subjects, integrating knowledge from different disciplines to explore a common theme. Our curriculum draws on the best practices from the International Primary Curriculum and the STEAM approach to design interdisciplinary learning activities and assessments that promote innovative and integrated learning. SECONDARY SCHOOL
At Malvern College Chengdu, our goal is to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the world and foster global connections through a bilingual and multi-modal activity-based approach.
