We feel design at Bedales is unique and believe our students to be some of the most creative, passionate and interesting young designers. We are proud of our department’s growing reputation, of nurturing innovative ideas, high standards of manufacture and preparing students for work in the creative industries. We are often being told by visitors and industry experts that we are running a ‘mini-degree course’. Our students are well-prepared to further their skills in design to degree level and have recently been offered places directly onto Design BA courses at institutions including Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion, Kingston University and Winchester School of Art.
The position of Teacher of Product Design requires high levels of designing and making skills across a wide spectrum of media. The successful candidate for this role would have a timetable heavily focused on KS 3 & 4. In addition, the teacher will need to provide direction for the tutor technicians and their work with the students both with timetabled lessons and in private study time.
It is envisaged the post will teach a total of up to 12 lessons per week, of 35 minutes duration each. In addition, the post will undertake 2 Enrichment lessons and an activity.
We are looking for someone with the enthusiasm, skills and commitment to build on the success and popularity that Design is currently enjoying at Bedales. Candidates should hold a good degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline and have a knowledge and passion for the subject outside of education. It is anticipated the successful candidate will have skills that are complementary to those of existing staff and the ability to play an effective part in a team and build positive rapport with students is essential.
