Job overview

The school is looking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic individual as a teacher of Religious Education. The RE department has a crucial role to play in delivering the values of our Christian ethos. The department uses a combination of the Blackburn Diocese Illuminating Pathways programme of study and the Lancashire SACRE syllabus. The school received an outstanding judgement in its most recent SIAMS inspection and we seek a teacher that will support our drive for excellence. The department has two specialist RE teachers including the Head of RE who are supported by other colleagues in the delivery of the curriculum.

Following the retirement of a part-time teacher who was the former Head of RE we are looking for a specialist teacher of RE who has the ability to teach a humanities subject. This would ideally be History, although the ability to teach Geography would also be considered. This is a 0.62 FTE 12 month fixed term contract because further staffing changes are anticipated at the end of August 2019 when this role will be reviewed. It will require the successful candidate to work 4 days in week A and 3 days in week B.

We are looking to recruit the best teacher possible to this role whether they are an NQT or an experienced teacher looking for the opportunity to work in an outstanding department in an outstanding school.

The closing date is midnight on Tuesday 22nd May

Shortlisting will take place on Thursday 24th May, and interviews will be held on Friday 25th May.

Due to the very short timeframes, school will contact you by email or telephone to confirm that you have been invited for interview.

About Balshaw's Church Of England High School

Balshaw’s is a mixed, comprehensive, Church of England secondary school without sixth form situated in Leyland, Lancashire. It is a community state school operating under the Diocese of Blackburn. An average-sized school, it will provide 925 places for students aged 11-16, when fully subscribed.

Balshaw's was founded as a charity school in Leyland in June 1782 by Richard Balshaw. It moved to its current Church Road site in September 1932. Although the school has no official sixth-form, it works closely with nearby Runshaw College, which was originally set up in 1974 to cater for school-leavers from Balshaw's and Parklands High School.

The school has high expectations of pupils and aims for excellence, at the same time as upholding its Christian faith and creating healthy working relationships with parents and local churches, businesses, industries and the community. Balshaw's motto “Non sibi sed aliis”, which translates as “not for ourselves but for others”, reflects the selfless and tolerant nature of the school .

Ofsted

“Under the exceptional leadership of the headteacher, students and staff flourish at Balshaw’s. Governors and all leaders and managers waste no time in tackling the slightest weakness so students’ achievement is outstanding. Students behave extremely well. They say how very safe they feel and are particularly appreciative of the exceptional personal support which the school gives them.”
