Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of a Teacher of Religion, Philosophy & Ethics to join a College based in Hillingdon.

The College is looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Religious Studies teacher to join their Religion, Philosophy & Ethics Department. There is potential for the right candidate to join them as a Head of Year.

The successful candidate will be, above all, passionate about RPE. They will be excited about sharing their subject passion with their students and ready to make a mark on their vibrant school community through their teaching.

The successful candidate will be required to teach from KS3 to A Level. Commitment to wider school life is expected.

Please indicate in your application if you would like to be considered for this the Head of Year role as well.

The Department:

The Religion, Philosophy and Ethics Department is made up of three teachers. It is a highly regarded subject within the school and has an excellent academic reputation. At Key Stage 3 students use a worldviews approach to study the six major world religions and explore philosophical and moral issues related to life in the twenty-first century. The subject is a popular subject at GCSE and A Level and girls achieve impressive results. They follow the AQA specification at GCSE and OCR at A Level.

The department runs an annual Philosothon competition with other local schools and invites in guest speakers and judges, providing a great opportunity to improve discussion and debate skills and to develop new ideas. The department also hosts an Interfaith event allowing students to explore a diversity of beliefs in their community. The subject has a broad reach across the whole school, and RPE teachers frequently collaborate with other departments. The department is also responsible for teaching the Sixth Form PPE Extend course, preparing students for applications to university in this subject.

About the School:

The College for Girls is an independent, academically selective day school for approximately 880 girls aged 3-18. An NWC education enables every girl to lead a purposeful life and feel successful in their learning. They are determined that the students in their care enjoy their time at school and leave them fully cognisant of their individual strengths, as well as being appreciative of the value of collective endeavour, teamwork and community. Their rigorous curriculum ignites intellectual curiosity, encouraging students to enjoy subject depth and breadth as true polymaths and building resilience through challenge. Both students and staff are encouraged to find and develop their passions and talents, through clubs, societies and an extensive programme of CPD. All members of the NWC community are expected to act with compassion and integrity, with respect for others and the environment and an awareness of global responsibility.

NWC is at an exhilarating moment in its evolution with exciting new buildings and further school development projects around the corner. The successful candidate will be similarly ambitious for the school, and for the RPE Department, in particular.
