Job overview

  • Do you think you could help further develop “a creative and intelligently planned holistic Catholic RE curriculum”?
  • Could you be part of “‘a vision for outstanding teaching and learning which is wholeheartedly embraced by all members of the RE department” resulting in “a departmental ethos of excellence”?
  • Are you able to help students to think “ethically and theologically, with a high level of engagement with staff and peers”?

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher of Catholic Religious Education who will help deliver the academic curriculum whilst supporting and promoting the wider mission and Catholic life of the school.

The RE department is a successful, cohesive, passionate and effective team, as demonstrated in the quotations above from the most recent Diocesean inspection. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to contribute and help develop this team with a commitment to the very best teaching, using the most effective techniques and latest research.

St Bonaventure's School has been judged as being Outstanding in all areas in both Ofsted and Section 48 (former CSI) inspections.

The school has already implemented the new RED for Year 7 and 8, with Year 9 to come in September 2024. We follow the Edexcel GCSE Spec A Catholic Christianity and Judaism at Key Stage 4 and OCR A Level in Philosophy of Religion, Religion and Ethics and Development of Christian Thought at Key Stage 5. We also have a 6th Form Core RE programme.

We expect that you will have evidence of excellent classroom practice and high expectations of pupil attainment and, if overseas trained, we would need evidence that your professional qualifications are recognised in the UK by UK ENIC &/or the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA).

St Bonaventure’s is an oversubscribed and popular provider of education within the London Borough of Newham. We are a welcoming, friendly and inclusive school with a high level of support offered to staff including 20% PPA.

We have a long and distinguished history of educating boys, aged 11-18, in east London and our thriving co-educational 6th Form is ethnically and religiously diverse, attracting students from across many local schools. We believe that our students have an entitlement to the very best education, with high expectations for all in our community.

We offer:

  • An opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic, inspired and motivated team where staff genuinely feel valued and cared for.
  • A minimum of 20% PPA for all teaching staff.
  • A teacher friendly marking policy.
  • No written reports to parents.
  • A strong commitment to your professional development and career management.
  • The provision of top quality CPD opportunities for you.
  • Encouragement for you to provide CPD to others; within our school, our borough, our diocese, our alliance and beyond.
  • A school with outstanding teaching and behaviour for learning, with which all our staff and the wider community feel proud to be associated.
  • A Chromebook for all new teaching staff.
  • Free refreshments for all staff.

St Bonaventure's School is only a short bus ride away from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Westfield Shopping Centre in the vibrant area of Stratford. Stratford is a transport hub with easy access to central London and Essex, which has been further enhanced by the Elizabeth Line. We are also close to the District Line.

St Bonaventure's is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff to share in this responsibility.

All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check and references.
