Are you passionate about developing enquiring and questioning young minds? Would you like to join one of the best Humanities teams in the region? Here is a rare opportunity to join a recently opened school and take a key role in promoting an enthusiasm for Religious Studies in students up to and including A-level.

Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018. It is situated in Tadpole Garden Village, a development that has been used as a geographical case study. The Academy is heavily oversubscribed in years 7 and 8 and our first cohort of Year 12 students formed our new Sixth Form in September 2019. This includes a strong group of A-level Philosophy and Ethics students. The foundations we have laid in Religious Studies are very positive, with the subject led by one of the Academy’s senior leaders; the progress made by our first cohort during year 7 was excellent.

This role will provide the successful applicant with the chance to further develop and teach an exciting Religious Studies curriculum in KS3 and KS4 as well as teaching A-level Philosophy and Ethics. A candidate able to offer another A-level subject, such as Sociology, Psychology or Law, would also be considered to teach in these areas, but this is not essential. You will be part of a dynamic and growing Humanities team and you will therefore have the chance to significantly shape the experiences of our students in the subject as they progress through our growing school. You will also be well supported to enjoy and develop your own practice, whether you are an NQT or more experienced.

There is the potential for this role to develop as the school and Sixth Form grows, with various leadership opportunities becoming available in the very near future, both directly within the subject and whole-school based. Our priority is very much to recruit the best classroom practitioners who can ensure our students arrive at the Academy excited about the day ahead and leave each day talking about the excellent learning they have experienced.

The successful candidate will also have the chance to contribute to our enrichment programme which runs for all students from 3.10 to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday. This provides opportunities to work with students in an area of your own interest to broaden and deepen their range of experiences at school.

Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. Our brand new building – national Educational Building of the Year 2019 - and our state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.

Further details are available on the Academy website www.gwacademy.co.uk and in the information documents attached.

Applications should be submitted electronically to recruitment@gwacademy.co.uk by 9am on Monday 24th February 2020. Interviews will take place shortly after this.
