Teacher of Religious Studies (Theology and Philosophy)

(Part Time 0.6-0.8FTE)

Can you inspire our students with a passion for learning about how different faiths and philosophies shape the modern world? We need a dynamic teacher able to inspire our students with a curiosity about others and themselves. We would like you to encourage creative thinking and be able to deliver all aspects of the Religious Studies curriculum from Year 7 through to Sixth Form.

Royal Russell School educates over 1000 girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18 and is situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon, only 30 minutes from Central London.  We have over 180 boarding students in the Senior School and are proud of our state of the art day and boarding facilities as well as the warm pastoral provision provided by our Housemasters and Housemistresses.  Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. Our vision is to provide an outstanding co-educational experience for children as the family school of choice.

The department offers an exciting Theology and Philosophy course to students from Year 7 to Year 9, with GCSE RS (AQA) in Year 10 and 11, and A level RS (Edexcel) in the Sixth Form. RS GCSE and A level are popular option subjects and our students achieve at the highest levels with 92% of grades awarded at an 8 or 9 in 2021. This is equally matched with 100% A and A* grades at A level in 2021.

You should be a passionate educator of young people with outstanding subject knowledge, who is able to teach Religious Studies to A* grade at A level, whilst also making theological and ethical issues engaging and accessible for younger students. This role requires enthusiasm, collaboration and dedication to a subject with a strong focus on outstanding teaching and results at all levels.

If you are ambitious to take on the opportunity of enhancing your skills for your next appointment by contributing to our extra-curricular programme or by supporting the pastoral life of our school, you may be the right candidate for us.

We are a friendly, warm and nurturing school and we are committed to doing the very best for our students. You will become a central part of our diverse, enthusiastic and energetic family. The strength of community at Royal Russell is paramount to the success of every individual and we strongly believe that we learn and achieve together.

This exciting opportunity offers excellent benefits including a competitive salary on our own salary scale which provides for progression based on performance and contribution and is above SNS. Teachers automatically join the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) or you may opt into an alternative defined contribution pension scheme with free life cover on a promoted salary scale. As part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School, you will join a friendly and dedicated team working in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links (Coombe Lane tram stop served by the New Addington tram is opposite the School entrance). In addition you will have access to free car parking, free meals, a discount of up to 50% on School fees, (85% discount for wrap around care before and after School during term-time and 25% discount with the Royal Russell Holiday Club which operates during School holiday periods), and the use of our sporting and gym facilities (on-site tennis courts, swimming pool and gym), free of charge.
