Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and inspirational graduate with outstanding interpersonal skills to teach within the Religious Studies Department.
We would expect the successful candidate to be able to teach at all levels of the school from Year 7 to up to and including A Level. It is likely that the successful applicant to this post will be expected to teach, in the first place, both Fifth and Sixth Form Religious Studies, and to deliver the Religious Ethics strand of the Eduqas (WJEC) Religious Studies A Level course. The department is also responsible for teaching non-examination Critical and Creative Thinking to the Fourth and Lower Sixth Forms.
The Religious Studies department has been very successful for a number of years, delivering GCSE results which are among the best in the school and adding significant levels of value at both GCSE and A Level. Not least because of our success at GCSE, the subject is popular at A Level, with roughly a quarter of the Sixth Form pursuing our Religious Studies course. Each year a number of girls go on to study Theology or Philosophy at top universities.
The Religious Studies Department is well resourced and delivers a range of extra-curricular activities which consolidate and extend pupils’ learning.
What we want from you
• A strong academic background and a good honours degree in Theology or related subject.
• Ability to teach GCSE and A Level Religious Studies, including the A Level Religious Ethics strand.
• Willingness to teach non-examinable Critical and Creative Thinking lessons.
• Qualified Teacher Status (desirable).
• Up to date knowledge of Theology developments for pupils 11-18.
• An empathetic, enthusiastic and well-presented person, capable of inspiring confidence in pupils, parents and staff.
• Ability to: work flexibly to fulfil the requirements of the post; prioritise; work calmly under pressure and respond positively to changing demands.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with very good written and spoken English.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills; competency in the use of ICT for administration and teaching purposes.
• An understanding of the expectations, ethos and aims of a full boarding school.
• Committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of children and young people.

About St Mary's Calne
St Mary’s Calne is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, a happy, purposeful and flourishing community of around 360 pupils with a 80% to 20% boarding to day ratio.
