Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational, motivated teacher to be involved in the delivery of both RS A level and Philosophy A level. You will make the subject exciting and will stimulate students’ enthusiasm for their studies. It is not necessary to have taught both subjects before, and support and training will be provided in both subjects where required.

The department teaches the AQA RS Syllabus and the Philosophy syllabus is also AQA. In RS students study Buddhism for the religious studies units, covering a wide range of theories in ethics and several core units in the philosophy of religion. In Philosophy, students cover 4 main areas: epistemology, moral philosophy, the metaphysics of God and the metaphysics of mind. The department is well established, and well resourced with a wide range of textbooks, departmental booklets, with fully developed schemes of learning. Experience of teaching additional Humanities subjects may also be beneficial.

Your focus will be on continuing to raise the quality of teaching and learning, on students achieving high grades in exams and on increasing the value added scores of the department. Your teaching must be of the highest quality and exam results should reflect the high calibre of your teaching. You must have a commitment to active and innovative teaching and learning, both inside and outside the classroom, including the embedded use of IT in your teaching. You will have the passion to be part of a successful teaching environment which produces the best from its students, and which also looks to prioritise the engagement of students in their own learning.

You will join a team of 8 full time and part time Humanities staff working in a spacious, well-resourced building. The focus of the team is very much on collaborative working, and on supporting one another to achieve the best results. We welcome applications from those on a PGCE and Newly Qualified Teachers.

To apply, please go to: www.barton-peveril.ac.uk/vacancies

Closing date: Noon on Friday 29th March 2019.

Please submit your application as soon as possible because the College may invite candidates for interview ahead of the closing date.
