Job overview

Falinge Park High School, Rochdale

M1 – UPR3

Opening Doors; Unlocking Potential

Start date – January 2020

An opportunity has arisen for a Science teacher to work alongside our partner, the University of Manchester, in developing partnerships across Rochdale and Greater Manchester. The SEERIH hub have been our partner for four years and for the past two years we have seconded a teacher two days a week to work alongside them. The promotion of this teacher to Head of Faculty has left a vacancy and we are hoping we will find a Science teacher who can teach Key Stage 3 and 4 Science but has the necessary skills to lead our Science partnership with SEERIH, local primary schools and lead on Greater Manchester Science Share and Greater Manchester Engineering Challenge. It is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to use their Scientific skills in a different way or someone who is looking to develop before applying for leadership roles.

Falinge Park High School is a large, multicultural, over-subscribed, inclusive comprehensive in Rochdale. There is a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the school and our pupils are well behaved and keen to learn. There is a positive ethos amongst the staff and we are recognised for our high quality professional learning and development.

Our objective is to create a compelling learning experience for everybody. We believe the way to do this is by believing in people and building positive relationships.

SEERIH is a well established department at the University of Manchester and have engaged thousands of children annually in the Great Science Share and Greater Manchester Engineering Challenge. They are committed to developing a strong Science continuum from Early Years to Higher Education. You can find out more about them here. https://www.seerih.manchester.ac.uk/

For more information read the Head’s letter which gives more detail to the role, visit our website or contact Lisa Fitton, Head’s PA to arrange a visit on fittonl@falingepark.com

Falinge Park is a multi-cultural, diverse, and inclusive school with approximately 1350 pupils, where all feel a strong sense of belonging to our ‘Falinge family’.   Everyone who visits comments on the calm environment, the positive relationships, and the keen sense of inclusivity that permeates everything that we do.

Staff work collaboratively to ensure the smooth running of the school and there is a strong sense of collaboration and support in everything that we do. We are grateful every day for the professionals we work alongside and all decisions about school improvement have people at the heart of them.

Of course, all recruitment material will say something similar so please come and visit us to see this for yourself so that you can make an informed decision about applying to work with us. Ask questions, challenge us and see for yourself what we are about.

Our core purpose is to secure the best academic and personal outcomes for all pupils and instil a life-long love of learning. This will ensure that all learners believe in themselves and their future, have choices and the power to make them and are able to contribute positively to society.

We expect all to: ASPIRE, THRIVE, AND ACHIEVE

At FPHS, we aim to give all our pupils the very best start in life, to help them develop into well-rounded young adults, able to venture into a rapidly changing world with confidence and determination. We embrace the challenges that all schools face and tackle them together. You will be joining a committed team who understand the importance of wellbeing.

We know that there is always more to do to ensure that every child’s educational experience is rich, character-building and of the highest possible standard.  We also know that to ensure this happens then attention must be paid to the wellbeing of all. Both adults and children.

FPHS is a special place with amazing young people; if you want to join us or would like to find out more about the school or the role, we look forward to hearing from you.

The Governors of Falinge Park High School have determined that the school should join the Watergrove Trust, a Rochdale-based multi-academy trust which aligns very positively with the Falinge Park values and mission.  We hope to join the Watergrove community of two secondary and five primary schools in the Autumn term of 2024.

Watergrove is a part centralised trust which shares core processes but also honours the individual character of all its schools, so whilst benefiting from the collaborative opportunities of being in a trust, you will also be firmly part of the Falinge Park family
